Witch Weekly Annual Holiday Party (Thursday 12/19)

Dec 16, 2013 12:00

The Holidays were a cheerful and festive time. In fact, this season was Daphne Greengrass's favorite time of a year. Everyone seemed to be in a better mood around bright lights, wrapped presents, and the jingle bells. It was about the only time that she preferred to see snow on the ground rather than feel the sand between her toes ( Read more... )

He wasn't the biggest fan of parties- not exactly finding himself to be the best company these days. He was tired and still reeling from Cho's death (his first kiss was hardly forgotten no matter how soppy and wet it had been), still working restlessly on the Burning Man case. He'd almost cancelled on Skylar- But he wanted to be there with her. Wanted to be by her side for her big night, knowing that a Witch Weekly event was going to mean a lot to her. Honestly, as he was readying himself for the evening, catching teasing looks from Ron and Neville (both of whom were going stag and already completely hammered), he kept thinking of seeing Skylar in some incredible dress - looking as gorgeous as she always did and he couldn't ignore the flip flops in his stomach ( ... )

"Me?" he asked incredulously, his head jutting back dramatically. "You were the one who started it- what with that dress and your lips and you know, the rest of you-"

But he still followed after her, letting her lead them to their table. He had to admit, as much as decorations were not his thing, he couldn't help but think the aesthetic was really nice- if he cared enough to remember later, he might give the party planners his regards.

Maybe.

If he wasn't already tangled under the covers with Skylar.

"Me? I'm only dressed this way because of your eyes and those abs," she countered as the weaved through the crowd.

She found a relatively empty spot in the buzzing room. The band was starting to pick up now that cocktail hour had officially began. A few brave souls had made their way onto the dance floor. Rather than join them, Skylar was happy sipping on her vodka soda, looking up at her date with a less than innocent look.

"I should add how absolutely and utterly romantic you can be when you want."

He nearly touched at his stomach before remembering the drink he had in one hand and the hand he had in the other. Avoiding that near spillage, Harry just shrugged casually before sitting down beside Skylar. He took his first sip, the warm liquid hitting his throat and causing him to exhale in relief. It always felt good going down.

"I think you've got the wrong Chosen One," he said, shaking his head. "Believe me, there is not a single person out there who would call me romantic."

He could almost see Ginny and Hermione collapse into a fit of laughter in his head.

Skylar playfully rolled her eyes as she settled down into the seat next him.

"I must have taken a lovely ferris wheel ride with the other Boy Who Lived and then somebody else completely made me the most delicious pancakes that I have ever had," she countered, raising her eyebrows to give him a knowing look. Skylar took a long sip of her vodka soda.

"I think, Mr. Potter, I make you mushy. Don't fight it."

He leaned toward her, waving his hand slightly as he shushed her, "No- no- you can't say that out loud," he said.

"Merlin, think of what it'll do to my roguish, man-whoring persona?" he continued, pressing his palm to his chest as if he were overwhelmed. "I'm getting a heart ache just thinking about it."

She watched him with a mock sympatheic look on her face while sipping on her drink. By the time he was done with his little show, Skylar had reached the bottom.

"Well, please don't let little old me stand in your way! I didn't realize I was tearing down this fantastic reputation you've built," she told him, looking down at her lap with a disappointed look. Skylar began to get up very slowly, "I can see I'm no longer needed..."

He cocked his head to the side, reaching out to lift up her chin with his index finger, a wry grin pulling at his own lips.

"You're my secret identity," he said, throwing her a wink before kissing her gently on the mouth. "And by secret, I mean kissing you in public kind of secret- which is obviously not very secret-"

Say secret again, Potter-

He laughed.

"Do you wanna embarrass me on the dance floor or what Fawcett?"

"Smooth save there, Wonder Boy," she laughed, shaking her head at him. He was actually quite adorable despite being a total arse. Still, the smile -

She reached for his glass and took a sip before handing it back to him. It burned all the way down. Skylar couldn't help but make a face.

"How can you even drink that?" she asked, half coughing. "Finish that and yes, I will do my best to make you look like an utter fool."

"Done-"

He couldn't help but laugh softly at her reaction from the drink knowing full well that firewhiskey was the last thing Skylar would have ever ordered. At least that he knew about her off hand.

He brought the glass to his lips, tilting it back and drinking it in one smooth shot.

"Now- let me show off-"

Her chest was on fire still from that small sip. Skylar would have never guessed herself to be a lightweight but now seeing Harry polish off her drink, she was doubting herself. Though, if she started comparing herself to Harry when it came to drinking she'd have her head in the toilet by dessert.

"Let's see what you can do, Potter," she mused, already making her way to the dance floor. Skylar looked over her shoulder to make sure that he was following. If he wanted to tease her, he'd get that right back.

The view from the back of Skylar was just as nice as the front, he realized, as she moved in front of him, her dress swaying with her step. He grinned widely, placing his glass on the table as he followed her out to the dance floor. He had to admit- dancing was not really his thing- none of this was.

But he found he was doing a lot of things tonight he wouldn't usually just for Skylar.

Trouble, trouble.

"You know- I'm not exactly all that coordinated-" he told her, pushing his glasses up just slightly as he met her on the floor.

Skylar led them out to an empty spot on the dance floor, not exactly front and center but off from the side lines. It was much easier to find your flow if you didn't feel like you were easily noticed, she had realized over the years. Sometimes blending into the crowd was better.

"You just don't have enough practice," she told him, reaching for his hands. The song had a good rhythm too it, not slow but not too fast. It was the type of song to warm everybody up until the real party started up after dinner and a few rounds of drinks. She moved her body close to his. "You seemed coordinated enough at school on the Quidditch team. I think you can manage."

"I hardly think this is the same thing as catching a Snitch," he said, though he felt his body moving with hers as she pulled herself close to him. Perhaps if he just closed his eyes for a second and let his body feel the beat-

Feel the beat? Merlin, that sounded stupid.

It was actually rather amusing watching Harry begin to move and sway his body. But it was absolutely adorable to watch him try so hard for her. She knew that he felt uncomfortable in the suit and maybe even guilty that they had drawn so much attention and now here he was, dancing with her.

"Maybe not catching the Snitch but managing to stay on your broom all those meters in the air?" she countered, placing her hands on his hips to gently guide him. While she may not be a fan of heights, Skylar had loved soaring through the air during matching. She felt more graceful and alive than she ever had reading her books.

"Well, I do remember you didn't always manage to stay on the broom."

"Those falls were hardly my fault," he sniffed, his hand snaking around her waist as she did her best to guide his bumbling form. This was almost like the Yule Ball all over again.

"You know, being targeted for murder every day and all that," he added, this time with a large grin.
