"I played a very bad hand very well."

So, Dollhouse. I had a weird experience watching this show because I started hoarding it like a frantic squirrel about halfway through season one. I started out watching it as it aired, and then my family and I got a bit behind. Then it looked like it might get cancelled, so we decided to save the episodes as long as we could. We watched a bit more ( Read more... )

idiot box, dollhouse

I thought there were definitely a lot of good moments in it, but as a whole, it was kind of disappointing because of all the gaps and unanswered questions.

It kind of moved way too fast, but I guess at the same time, there's enough missing that if someone really wanted to, they could produce an entire TV series about those missing years, or the rebuilding process after E2. Or, you know, just fanfiction.

'Cause it's not like everyone's just getting their personality back and suddenly the world is fine again. (Also, it wasn't clear to me how they could prevent everyone from just getting wiped again. There had to be some Actuals still in charge and responsible for the mass remote wipes. Wouldn't they just do it again?)

I sort of hate and love the gaps and question marks at the same time. Mostly, I'm just really impressed by how many punches they chose not to pull, despite the fact that they were going to leave big questions unanswered.

That said, I really hope they continue the story and fill in those gaps somehow. But they've already dismissed comics and the web as potential continuation media, so I don't know how it would happen. :\

I don't think they can prevent everyone from just getting wiped again. That's part of what's making Echo so twitchy in that scene with Paul in the back of the truck. Someone's going to have to go out and fight these people and physically destroy all that equipment.

I don't know that there were that many Actuals left calling the shots, though. I figure most of them have been body-jumping all this time like Harding and Ambrose.

It totally sucks. I can't wait to discuss with you in more detail why it sucks ;)

I wish they'd been able to bring out the big story guns a little earlier on, instead of the fluffier bits of season 1. Or at least been allowed to air Epitaph One. Maybe they would have hooked a bigger audience if people had gotten an idea of where it was going. :\

I think Epitaph One (or something like it) should have been the first episode of first season and then they could have worked backwards from it. I think it would have done well that way and people wouldn't have had the same negative reaction to the 'high-tech whores' that they did when the show started, because it would be more obvious that the show considered that a bad thing, too (though really, are there that many people out there who assume that depiction equals advocacy? really?)

The original buzz around the show was definitely more "ooh, sexy techno-hookers!" than anything else. I don't remember if it was advertised that way by Fox, but I'm thinking probably.

And, I think there *are* a great many people out there who assume that just by showing something on TV, you're somehow condoning it. I don't understand it, but the attitude is there. I've encountered it before in other fandoms, although I don't remember the specific issues anymore.

I just assume that Ivy did leave when Topher told her to and made her way in the world trying not to be wiped.

As for Dominic, I think he must have died at some point in the attic.

She probably did, you're right. Gah, imagine if they'd run into her a few years later and she's one of those zombie kill machines? :\

Dominic got let out of the Attic, though! Adelle sent for him at some point in the 10 years since the world started going to hell, because his scene in Epitaph One takes place after the tech has gone out of control and people are wandering around the streets with their minds wiped.

Maybe after that conversation from EO he went back up there. Oh man, I don't get that one now. UGH! SHOW STOP MAKING MY HEAD HURT!

The one that confuses me the most is the conversation from E1 with Ambrose in Victor's body. When the hell did that happen?

Yeah, I was one of those people who was hoarding and figured sense Epitah 1 wasn't aired that I could hold onto it past the show (I already own the DVD) so needless to say, confused and kinda pissed off when the episode started and because I stayed away from spoilers I had no idea it was the second half of an ep I hadn't seen :0/

Ack! That sucks! Stupid Fox, I knew that would happen to people! :\

Have you seen it now? Do you need a download on the sly? ;)

well, my boyfriend is so pissed about the whole thing I have to wait until he cools down before we can watch it. Thankfully I still have both episodes, we will probably watch them together when I can get him to stop steaming about it :0)
