When I read fiction, I tend to read dialogue in the voice of the character. So, for instance, Giles gets an English accent, Xander has a quick SoCal chop, that type of thing

Oh, I don't think that the reading and writing in an accent is all that strange or anything -- I would imagine that most people who are imaginitive (like you are) do that sort of thing.
I just sounded like an idiot answering the phone with an English accent. I've never actually been to England or anything. My accent isn't really all that English -- basically, I sounded like an idiot. =)
It's funny -- my brother can do a *perfect* London accent. He studied there last summer and convinced half the people he met that he was really English.
Heh. At home, when I'm reading I barely ever even notice the phone ringing. It's just louder here, and happens more often, and... you know... I'm paid to. =)
