I mean, I made one. It's just sitting there, though. I'm starting to think I might be too old for this shit. I mean, I'm a dad now. I am just kind of inevitably un-hip and bad at stuff now, right? That's how it works, I think.
I'm almost 40 and I'm on it constantly. It's not just pictures, although the platform does lend itself to quickly sharing images and media. I make tons of text posts and most people I know do, as well. It's just super easy to see things you like and share them.
The key is you have to follow people or else you won't see any content on your dashboard. Acquiring your own followers takes time, but it happens.
Generally, you start by browsing a few Tumblrs. Then you make one of your own to follow people. Then you start reblogging. Then you post some of your own stuff. And pretty soon you're sucked into this horribly disorganized website full of pretty pictures and gifs and a small amount of actual content and you LIKE it.
I am just curious because I find myself looking at imgur lately, and I think they're kissing cousins or something maybe? Not sure. Like I said above, I think that being in my mid-thirties and a dad now makes me really, really too old and lame for this kind of thing.
Just start following people. You'll get the idea. You can follow me, if you like! I'm madlori there too.
Basically you can post whatever you want. Pictures, audio files, videos, text posts. When you see something you like that you'd like to share on your own tumblr, you reblog it - you can add your own comments, or not. Most people's tumblrs are part reblogs, part original content. Mine is a lot of answering questions because I get a lot of questions.
Tumblr moves VERY fast, and it's pretty much where fandom lives now, because it's so easy to share things. The tagging system is a thing, too.

You start reblogging and then suddenly you can't stop tumbling. That's how it works. Or so I hear.
