2. I actually looked that up when eltea started sending me blackcurranty things when she was in Oxford! According to Wikipedia, the blackcurrant bush (…I think it's a bush) was carrying this tree disease that was really bad for the forests in New England, and the forestry industry got it pretty much wiped out, so the flavor just kind of disappeared. Supposedly it's slowly coming back into style. :o
