Demyx swung his legs back and forth over the narrow ledge of the white clock tower.  Behind him, the hand shifted and suddenly the loud chorus of bells began.  Demyx sighed happily at the music, not noticing the ball in the distance coming to a halt as a maiden in a white dress ran from the Prince.  He had come to see how close this world was to darkness but seeing as it wasn’t he had decided to scout out some other things instead.  Like the clock tower he was now sitting on.

“What are you doing Number 9,” a voice whispered in his ear causing Demyx to jump and nearly fall off.

“Z-Zexion!”  Demyx caught himself and looked up at the Nobody standing over him, “W-what are you doing here?”

Zexion smirked and sat down next to Demyx, “I was asked to check on you.”

A small pout crossed the blond Nobody’s face, “I can take care of myself Zexion.”  He gestured to the small town spread out below them, “Sides this place is really peaceful…especially considering it’s the world of one of those Heart Princesses.”

“Princesses of Heart.”

“Yeah, that,” Demyx said with a shrug.  Zexion sighed and silence fell between the two as the midnight bells ceased their chiming, “Hey Zexion do Nobodies get a Happy Ever After?”

Zexion blinked at the sudden question, “What are you talking about Demyx?”

Demyx tapped his chin in thought, trying to figure out a way to better phrase the question, “You know…like…are we going to get to be happy in the end?  And they lived happily ever after.”

“Demyx.  Do you see this,” Zexion asked, pulling out the tome that was his weapon, when Demyx nodded he continued, “Happy Ever Afters only happen in fairy tales and stories.  No one, Nobody or not, can be happy forever.”

“Oh,” Demyx replied sadly.  He tilted his head back to look up at the sky, his features brightening again suddenly, and he pointed to the starry sky, “Hey! Zexion look! A falling star!”

Zexion eyes followed his finger and a sad look crossed his features for a brief instant, “Seems another world has fallen to the Heartless.”  Demyx’s hand dropped, the smile on his face flickering.

“Why do you always have to be so down Zexion?”

The accused rose from his spot, tucking his book under his arm and opening a portal, “Because someone has to keep you grounded Demyx.”  The blond shrugged and hopped up as well, following Zexion into the darkness.
