Riding in cold weather isn't bad as long as your extremities are sufficiently protected. Get a good head covering- I've got one that is essentially a higher-tech ski mask that my helmet fits easily enough over. I tend to not bundle up entirely too heavily on my legs or torso, as when I get going they tend to warm up quickly and it's bad in really cold weather to be sweating a lot and then stop at a light for a while- you cool of fast. I find it best to be just insulated enough to be comfortable and just below the level of really sweating.
