Advertising a seriously rad game based loosely off of the .hack universe. Right now we have a Lambo, a Tsuna, a Belphegor, and Gokudera - but we would dearly love some more mafiosi!
Hope this is cool without a lj cut - if it's not, let me know and I'll cut it!
Congratulations! You've just received a copy of Sol Invictus, the latest and most popular RPG in the world. You're probably going to want to sign in, make your new character, have a look around even. Doing so has never been more exciting, as new and improved technology (including updated Face-Mounted Displays and, for the devout gamer, plate armor-like controllers) enable the player to feel like they physically exist within the realm of the game. Just don't get too carried away -- you wouldn't want to be stuck there.
Along with this game comes a very severe warning that players may fall prey to what is known as S.I. Syndrome. Although not a recognized psychological disorder, it has come to be known as such by the general public. Victims of S.I. Syndrome become delusional to the point where they are driven mad, firmly convinced that what happens to them in-game is really... well, real. They often grow despondent, abandoning reality and their daily routines to live vicariously through this game, unable to function as they used to. But just what is this "reality," and what is it they're seeing that makes them question it?
Hypnagogy is another pan-fandom alternate-universe role-playing game that borrows heavily from the .hack games. Despite its .hack background, however, Hypnagogy does not require the player to have extensive prior knowledge of the .hack series, unless they intend to apply as one of the characters from it.
The basic premise of the game is that the characters we know and love (from any series) are not only fictional, but just characters made up by real-life people to play in a made-up MMORPG, Sol Invictus. Like actual MMORPGs, players choose their character’s looks and job class, fight to level up, join guilds, and forge friendships and rivalries alike. And just like .hack, most (if not all) of what goes on in Hypnagogy deals with what happens to these characters while they’re in Sol Invictus; an experience that, while players think that they’re just playing, blurs the fine line between fiction and reality. Add to that the well-known fact that even a seemingly harmless game keeps its secrets, and even these characters will be left wondering if what happened was all just a figment of their imagination.
