He’d promised himself -- the sky like salt, colorless above the plains; he’d promised with the last breath he expected to take as he hurtled towards the edge, past the railings in his mind, that this world would never own him, never take him prisoner.
So when they initiate this, when he leaves the first time with scrapes from the struggle, they feel like marks of ownership; when lips like fire sear against the pulse in his neck, it feels like a brand. S’okay, though; because Bones isn’t ‘the world,’ even if he’s Jim’s.
