I seriously didn't think it could get any better after I read your last Daniel/Charlotte ficlet, but this -- AHHHHH. I'm such a sucker for this pairing in holiday-themed settings, and this is absolutely perfect. You could run the risk of this being just a little too blue, or too sweet and light, for this pairing, but you manage to balance perfectly in between the two -- that they're enjoying the holidays together, and it's such a lovely, intimate moment, but still with that inkling of something's not quite right.

I feel like I could quote the entire thing back at you, but this section -- Bing Crosby's still crooning softly in the background, and the mellow lull of his baritone mirrors the rhythm of her heart beneath his hand as he pulls her close enough to taste what remains of gingerbread and sugar on her skin, the tang of cinnamon and nutmeg that she exhales in gentle puffs, that lingers still on that holly-red mouth. I am so, so glad to see that you enjoyed this - I really didn't know if I'd done the pairing justice for you, so the fact that you enjoyed it makes me so happy :D I'm also really glad that the tone worked for you, the right balance of melancholy with hope and lightheartedness for these two; thank you, so much *hugs*

Thank you! I was a little iffy on whether the descriptions hit right or not, so I'm thrilled to hear they worked for you!

(I might have a little soft spot for them, too ;) )
