history_haven has 50 members!

VQ gave me an idea for an interesting celebratory discussion.

What was the first historical figure or subject that you can remember getting interested in and studying?

Lastly, thank you for joining, new members!

Happy Holidays from the Haven.

"See You When You're 40"? But we have 50 members!

The first? Haha, for me, that'd have to be the Shinsengumi. Or something like that. I always liked samurai, sumotori, geisha, and the many other characters of old Japan. The Shinsengumi were some of the last loyal samurai, and their magnificent swordsmanship has historical merit in itself. I was inspired and wanted to learn all the members' stories, which led me to learn about the period . . .

Actually, pretty much all my historical obsession has been sparked by . . . family and anime. I loved historical anime like Rurouni Kenshin, which got me into the Shinsengumi. I love Hetalia, so I've gotten into other nations' history. And my favorite places to study are all ones my family is involved with somehow: Lithuania, Japan, Ireland . . . I've had a couple of very specific sources of inspiration, but I'm branching out now and I've discovered that there's great history EVERYWHERE!

Off-topic . . .

I really wasn't thinking about that. It's what was playing on my Ipod.

Ruroni Kenshin. LOVE.

Don't I know you from lunatunes? You've been sharing some awesome music over there lately!

If you've got time or interest, it might be fun to start a discussion of historical figures & the music they remind us of.

hehe, yes you probably do!

hehe I almost posted a song I have that reminds me of Willa Cather and the fact that Kansas ignores the fact she had a partner for 19 years.

Ooh, please do; that sounds intriguing!

Then lots of the members of the community will jump up & down, declaring that, since you like intelligent female authors, you obviously need to join sounis, for fans of Megan Whalen Turner & general reprobatish fun.

History Class, definately! I guess that would make it... the paleolithic age summery evilhistoryteacher gave to our class the first day. But for one single thing that got me interested, I think it might have been the court of Louis XIV, the Sun King. I enjoyed reading about him, and his playwright Moliere.

Out of curiosity. I'm writing a rant-esque post for my LJ and keep getting into the history of CGI. Does that count? would people be interested if I posted it, or is that too modern (mostly taking place in the last twenty years)? If people don't ask me to post it here, you can find it on my LJ either way (except the entire post, not just the CGI rant).

I'd like to hear about the history of CGI. I think not only modern history, but media history also is interesting.

(Sorry, I can't write coherently today.)

Eleanor of Aquitaine, I think. When I was about 9, and read a fictional book based on her... Actually and Joan of Arc, from playing a computer game when I was about the same age...
