Round 7: closed

May 07, 2012 11:06

Well, I'm a little bit dissapointed that so many people dropped out this round, even though we had a lot sign ups this time. I understand the reasons but nevertheless I don't know what to do now and need your help ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear/see that the community is not getting as much submissions. I did not sign up for some rounds, because I'm busy, but also because, though I really like history, I don't have many persons I really like. I would love to make icons relating to a historical era (Georgian, Regency, Victorian, Edwardian etc), so if you could make a special round of that, I would certainly be in!!

Thank you for your suggestion. This is a good idea for doing a special round. I'm really thinking about doing this for next round, we could have different special rounds each time. Like focusing on eras, myths, character, or buildings.

However the problems aren't the sign ups since we had enough this time. The problem was that many dropped out. Maybe this is a time issue, but reducing the icons from 20 to 10 wouldn't really do the community (20in20) justice. But it could be that with an era challenge this problem is also reduced.

I do not mind doing a round of promotion for you at my comms if you think that would help? I really enjoyed this challenge and would be sad to see it close down.

I understand that the concept of this 20in20 is historical rather than costume drama but I must admit that I often find it very difficult to think of something/someone to claim, which is why I've only signed up once. I think birdienl idea is a good one, either having a special round for a specfic era or maybe letting people make broader claims.

A promotion would be definetly awesome and I think it could help. You could do this as soon as the new challenge is opened. Thank you so much for offering this!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I think I'm taking the idea since I think it's a really good one and a lot easier to find caps for. Thank you for your help!

That's nice of you :)
Thank you a lot for your help.

Centering around an era would be really interesting and I think I'm taking it :).

Sorry, I'm one of the drop outs this time! RL is INSANE, and I had like 5 images to work with for my claim. I love this community and the idea of more historical icons of all genres. Most of the people I love from history are fairly obscure and there just isn't that many visuals for them, which makes icon making rather difficult --- and time consuming, which was the issue this round ( ... )

Thank you a lot for your feedback! This is a great help. Since I have some time today. I'm going to send a message around to those who want to help.

It's right that I maybe haven't promoted at enough comms. Feel free to promote wherever you think it's right. I maybe don't know so many communities so I would be glad if you could name some or as I said even promote yourself ;)

The problem about changing the rules is that the definition of what is "History" is kind of a problem. I really want this to stay a history community, so probably people who are still alive wouldn't quite fit, therefore I thought of 2000 because there had to be a cutoff line and this seemed kind of managable. What I'm thinking about is making an entry here, wher I list various historical characters sorted by era so that people can take this as suggestion, of course they can add names they think off, too.

Fair enough - as the mod you get to choose and there certainly are enough debates about what is history vs. current history vs. current events vs. modern history. For my view, I see an event that took place in 1953, such as the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, to be “history,” even though she is not dead. But it’s completely within your rights as mod to determine what is going to be the factor to define what you mean by “history.”
