Chapter Two:
“Are you sure it’s them?” assassin Kim asked. He looked at his team. Another Kim, a Park, and an unknown. All that was known was that he was a foreigner.
“Oh, I’m very sure it is. They’ll pay for killing Commander Yoon last year,” the second Kim said. He glared through the bushes at the happy community before him. His eyes were forever following Jang Hyunseung, the man he wanted dead. He watched him until he entered a small café with his friends.
“Who do we kill first?” Park questioned, his eyes skimming everyone that was around.
“Aim for those close to Yoon’s son. That’ll teach them to mess with us,” the foreigner suggested.
The first Kim shook his head. “How about we just kill the guy who killed Yoon?”
The second Kim glared at the café. “That won’t be enough, Kim. We have to make them suffer.”
Donghae and Eunhyuk were exiting their dance studio when an unfamiliar car drove by. They looked at each other before Donghae pulled his phone out and dialed they mayor’s number.
“Mayor Seungho, I know we haven’t been here that long, but a car just drove pass the EunHae Dance Studio and it looked suspicious. Should I call G.O?” Donghae informed. He nodded. “Okay. If things get crazy, I’ll phone him. Talk to you later, Seungho.”
“Who would move way out here?” Eunhyuk asked, opening the car door for Donghae.
“Well, not too long ago we moved here.”
“We weren’t accepted anywhere else. We moved here for the tolerance of our sexual preferences.”
“Maybe they are, too.” Donghae smiled. “Let’s get over to Yesung and Siwon’s. They have to work today and I offered to babysit little Kibum.”
“Let’s get going, then.”
As they drove off, they noticed the strange car from earlier. They stared at it for a few minutes to see who would get out. Once the car doors opened, they heard people laughing.
“Leeteuk, will you and Kangin be joining us for supper tonight?” Hankyung asked, opening the back car door for his boyfriend.
“Please say you’ll come over!” Heechul whined. “If you don’t, I’ll be stuck with listening to his stories from China!”
“We’ll join you for supper,” Leeteuk confirmed. He laughed at Kangin’s expression. “Oh, stop pouting, dear. You’ll get wrinkles.”
Donghae and Eunhyuk drove away, undetected by the new four residents. When they were parked in front of the Choi-Kim home, Eunhyuk smiled.
“They don’t seem too suspicious as of right now.”
“We’ll keep a close watch on them.” Donghae climbed out of the car as a squealing Kibum bolted from the house. He ran up to Donghae and hugged him around the knees.
“Hyung! Hyung!” Kibum squealed, jumping up and down. “Up, up!”
Donghae lifted the three-year-old off of the ground and hugged him. “Where are appa and umma?”
“Right here,” Siwon replied, stepping out of the front door. A smile was plastered to his face as he watched Kibum. He turned his head to holler through the screen. “Yesung, Donghae and Eunhyuk are here!”
Footsteps could be heard overhead as Yesung scrambled across the floor and thundered down the stairs. He went out the front door and off the porch to greet his high school friends.
“I though you’d never get here!” Yesung complained after hugging his friends. “I love him, but sometimes Kibum just drives you crazy!”
Eunhyuk laughed, pulling Kibum from Donghae’s arms. He spun in circles with Kibum, both of them getting dizzy and laughing. “Well, we’re here to babysit for you whenever you need a break.”
“I think that Eunhyuk has more fun playing with Kibum than Kibum does playing with Eunhyuk,” Donghae joked.
“Fishy hyung!” Kibum laughed, grabbing a fistful of Donghae’s hair and tugging on it. Donghae yelped, making Kibum laugh harder.
“Again, again!” Eunhyuk cheered. Instead of pulling Donghae’s hair, Kibum grabbed Eunhyuk’s hair and pulled. “Ow! You weren’t supposed to pull my hair, Kibum…”
The little boy only clapped and wiggled in Eunhyuk’s arms. “Pineapple hyung is funny!”
“Pineapple hyung? How am I pineapple hyung?”
Kibum tugged on Eunhyuk’s hair again. “Your hair is like a pineapple.” Siwon and Yesung laughed at the simplistic answer their son gave Eunhyuk. “Umma, I want candy for supper!”
“No candy for supper,” Yesung disagreed. “You can have something small for a snack before bed, but not for supper.”
Kibum puffed out his cheeks. “Appa, I want candy for supper!”
Siwon shook his head. “No candy for supper.” Getting he same answer from Siwon, Kibum only pouted more.
“I’ll make sure Eunhyuk follows the rules,” Donghae assured them.
“Thanks, Donghae.” Siwon glanced at his watch. “I have to get going or I’ll be late.” He pecked Yesung on the lips before hurrying off to his car. A car drove down the street, barely rolling forward. Donghae and Eunhyuk kept their backs to it until it turned the corner.
“It’s that car…” Eunhyuk said. Yesung looked to Donghae, then back to Eunhyuk.
“What car?”
“The car that we saw outside of our dance studio. It looked suspicious to us so we called Seungho. He told us to investigate a little,” Donghae answered. “Don’t worry too much, Yesung. Just go to work.”
Yesung shook his head, plucking Kibum from Eunhyuk’s arms. “No, no, no. This won’t work.”
“If we need to, we’ll call G.O, Joon, and Mir.”
“Oh, I’m so relieved.”
“Knock off the sarcasm.”
Eunhyuk sighed. “We’ll call Ryeowook. If he can’t come over, then we’ll see if Sungmin will help. He loves kids.”
“I’m not worried about your ability to watch my child.”
“Then what’s worrying you?”
“How that car rolled passed here so slowly. I don’t want someone creepy near my little Kibum.”
Donghae fought against smiling. “But you let Eunhyuk near him…”
Yesung laughed. “That is true.” He thought for a moment before continuing. “I’ll give Taeyang a call. He’s more fit to be a police officer over G.O, Joon, or Mir.”
“How do you know his number?”
“I don’t. but I know T.O.P’s. He helped design my tablecloths and curtains. He sewed them, too.” Yesung went inside, followed by Donghae and Eunhyuk. The two of them played with Kibum while Yesung called T.O.P and Taeyang.
“Is there any way they can stop over at Kyuhyun’s café and get us some of his amazing coffee?” Eunhyuk asked.
Sighing, Yesung went back to his conversation with Taeyang. “Eunhyuk wants to know if you’re able to stop by Kyuhyun’s and pick them up some coffee…” He smiled. “Yes, the money to pay you back will be left on the kitchen counter by the microwave.”
“He’s getting us Kyuhyun’s coffee?” Donghae asked after Yesung was off of the phone.
“Yes. Be sure to thank him for making an extra trip.” He looked at the wall clock. “I’ve got to get going. Kibum, come give umma a hug and a kiss goodbye.” Kibum ran over to Yesung and hugged him tightly. Yesung bent down and kissed his son on the forehead. Kibum mimicked the action, kissing Yesung’s forehead. “Umma loves you, Kibummie.”
“And I love you, umma!” Kibum said, giggling before running back to play with Eunhyuk.
“We’ll call you if we need anything. Besides, Taeyang should be here within a few minutes.”
“Thank you, Donghae. Remember, Kibum only goes to sleep if you sing him a song.” Yesung left the house and got into his car. He honked the horn once before pulling away to go to work.
Kyuhyun wiped down the last of the tables before flipping the chairs upside down to place on top of them. He was humming quietly to himself as he went into the kitchen. He tapped his friend, Ryeowook, on the shoulder since he was listening to music with headphones on.
“You can leave now, Ryeowook,” Kyuhyun said after the elder took off the headphones.
“Are you done with all of the cleaning?” Ryeowook asked, turning his attention back to scrubbing the dishes.
“No, but I’ll finish up. Go ahead and get home to Shindong.”
A smile spread across Ryeowook’s face. “Thank you, Kyuhyun! Oh, I can’t wait to see the look on his face when I get there!”
“Tell Sungmin that I’ll be home after I take today’s earnings to the bank.”
“Alright.” Ryeowook pulled the apron off and hung it on the hook beside the door leading to the dining area. “Should I send him back to your house or over here?”
“Home. He needs some rest after babysitting Shindong. No offense.”
“None taken. I know Shindong can be a handful at times. It’s hard to believe that he’ll be five this September.”
“You’ve had him for three years now…?”
“Yes.” He smiled sadly. "It’s sad to believe that Henry chose that fool over me and Shindong. We could have been so happy together.” After rethinking his thoughts, Ryeowook’s eyes widened. “I’m sorry for bringing him up, Kyuhyun…”
“It’s okay, Ryeowook. It’s been almost three years. Zhoumi chose to leave me. Besides, him leaving made me and Sungmin get together again.” He smiled happily at the thought of his husband. “It’s nice marrying your high school sweetheart.”
“I’ll be off, then.” Ryeowook waved goodbye before leaving the café. Kyuhyun heard his car start before he pulled away.
The bell on the door jingled, signaling that someone had entered the café. Kyuhyun came from the kitchen with a tray to empty other tables. “What can I get for-” He stopped when he saw Zhoumi standing there. “Z-Zhoumi. What are you doing here?”
“I came to take you home with me. Henry’s being a girl and won’t sleep with me,” Zhoumi said. He held out his hand. “Let’s go, my Kui Xian.”
“No, I’m not going. If you have issues with Henry then solve them with him, not me. I’ve been married to Sungmin for almost three years now.”
“I knew you’d go running back to him after I dumped you.” Zhoumi walked around the counter toward Kyuhyun. “And it’s natural for people to have affairs.”
Kyuhyun backed away from Zhoumi, the wall finally interrupting his escape. “Go away, Zhoumi…” Even Kyuhyun knew he sounded pathetic in ordering his ex around. He held the empty tray against his chest to keep from trembling. In all honesty, he was terrified of the man standing before him.
Zhoumi chuckled, taking a few more steps. He stood in front of Kyuhyun and gazed down at him. “Although you tell me to go away, you haven’t done anything to make me believe in your petty relationship with Sungmin.”
“It’s not petty!” Kyuhyun tossed the tray onto the counter and glared at Zhoumi. Something about Zhoumi insulting his marriage with Sungmin made his blood boil. “Get out of my café before I throw you out!”
Zhoumi pushed Kyuhyun against the wall and kissed him. Kyuhyun tried to shove him away, but Zhoumi wouldn’t let him. He pinned the younger man’s hands above their heads and continued to kiss him.
“I want you back,” Zhoumi breathed. He looked at Kyuhyun.
“No, I don’t you back! You treated me like crap and I’m married. Get over it.”
Zhoumi pulled back and dropped Kyuhyun’s wrists. Kyuhyun knew that look in the elder’s eyes. That look of anger, warning him to run. Every cell in his body ordered him to run, but he couldn’t find the strength to make his legs move. In one movement, Zhoumi hit Kyuhyun across the face, knocking him to the floor. He turned and stormed out, leaving the younger where he fell.
Five minutes later, Taeyang entered Kyuhyun’s café, expecting to see the always cheerful Ryeowook and Kyuhyun whistling as he wiped down tables. Instead, he was met with silence. He stopped just inside the door, unsure if he should go further in until he heard someone whimper from the other side of the counter. He rushed over and went around it, stopping as soon as he saw Kyuhyun sitting on the floor, tears silently rolling down his cheeks.
“Kyuhyun…?” Taeyang whispered. Kyuhyun flinched at the sound before looking up to see who said his name. Seeing that it was Taeyang, he tried to smile. He failed miserably. Taeyang sat next to him. “Are you okay?”
Kyuhyun shook his head. “No, not really.” More tears rolled down his cheeks. “You’d think after two years with him I would have gotten used to this, but it still hurts.”
The elder’s words confused him. “Who are you referring to?”
“My ex-boyfriend Zhoumi. I was with him before I got back together with Sungmin.” Kyuhyun continued to stare at the wall.
“Why is your ex coming around all of the sudden? You’ve been married to Sungmin for three years.”
Kyuhyun shrugged. “I don’t know.”
“What do you mean about getting used to it? Did he hit you all the time?”
He turned watery eyes to Taeyang before he nodded. “I was hoping that he’d stay away from me after we broke up. But he came after me…” A few sobs escaped Kyuhyun’s lips before he just let himself cry. He didn’t care about how it looked for him to cry. He just couldn’t keep it contained.
“Shhh. You’ll be alright,” Taeyang said. He pulled Kyuhyun into a hug. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number. “T.O.P, it’s me. How quickly can you get Sungmin on the phone?” He bit his lip while T.O.P spoke. “Call him and tell him to meet me at Siwon’s clinic. And try not to scare him half to death.” Taeyang hung up his phone and looked down at Kyuhyun, who was trying to compose himself. It wasn’t working very well. “I’ll take you to Siwon’s clinic. Sungmin’s meeting us there.”
Taeyang helped Kyuhyun to his feet and allowed the elder to lean on him for support. He supported most of Kyuhyun’s weight as they walked through the café. When they reached the door, it swung open, Ryeowook standing there with Shindong in his arms.
“Oh, my gosh! What happened to him?” Ryeowook gasped.
“It was Zhoumi.”
The look of horror of Ryeowook’s face only confirmed Taeyang’s suspicions of Kyuhyun’s ex. He was nothing but bad news.
