  • I should really stop worrying about going to the dentist.
  • Stephen King's 'On writing' is f-ing amazing. (I am a startlingly slow learner)
  • It's probably a bad idea to buy cars that can emit as much smoke as a KH250.
  • Puppetcamp London was jolly good. I would like more time to work on useful things instead of shovelling shit.

I came across King's On Writing in Foyle's a few months ago, but decided not to buy it till the to-read pile is at a stage where I can get into the spare room. So I still haven't read it, but it's definitely a priority.

I don't have a muse so much as the feeling of him and Chuck Wendig leaning over my shoulders and going 'Bloody well get on with it.'

Only in American.

I've been hearing good things about Puppet. Along the lines of "if you want to make a killing contracting, learn Puppet".

Yeah, pretty much. Although there's a remarkably high proportion of bullshit-merchants. It's a bit of a boost to the ego when $contractor pitches up with a gold-plated CV, which you can then shred in about ten minutes of interview.

We're in a Puppet vs CFEngine bakeoff at werk. I want to kill CFEngine with fire for all manner of reasons. It's coming down to "one of the Drupal devs likes Puppet and is interested in writing his own manifests." I'll take what I can get at this stage.

We are found that running Puppet with all the Environments bits turned on + Gitlab set up such that $master is protected from 'developers' means that said devs can run their own short-lived (you do not want them to become long-lived) puppet branches (which magically are also git branches) and can emit merge requests to $master, which we can vdiff in t'web-thing and bounce or accept w/o much work. It's really quite splendid and a very supported config.
