By the way, if anyone here is in search engine optimisation...kill yourself. Thank you. Just planting seeds, planting seeds is all I'm doing. No joke here, really. Seriously, kill yourself, you have no rationalisation for what you do, you are Satan's little helpers. Kill yourself, kill yourself, kill yourself now. Now, back to the show. ( Read more... )

Ugh. I worked for an SEO company for three months. Three months of mindlessly mining keywords for bland corporate sites. Ooh, it's a new Peugeot. 'car' 'buy car' 'peugeot' 'buy peugeot' 'peugeot new' 'vehicle' 'test drive'... and then my brains ran out of my ears, and hopped the marshmallow trolleycar to Imaginationland.

It was the temptation to do things like that which lead to the SEO company and I mutually agreeing to part company. I've been so much happier since I moved back to the charity sector.

Think how I feel about it. "Have you considered the SEO implications?" is a standard question that other agencies ask us and our clients when they're trying to chisel some business out of our clients, and want to make us look bad.

And I want to beat them bloody while screaming "SEO is if horseshit! Build it right, use properly, standards compliant markup with all the appropriate bits, and build something people fucking *want*. Everything else is lies!"

But I'm not allowed to do that.

Did you ever see the standards-based SEO work on the post-2005 pre-Flash Games Radar site? Work of fecking art that was, even though The Grovenator kept insisting on it had to support IE5 Mac.

It`s a nice little routine of Bills that you`ve based this on, but it DOES annoy me. I agree bill, ut I don`t think all these marketing types are just going to up and kill themselves. No.

I think we need to SELL them the idea.
