JGB on Modernism (via the splendid types at Electrolite). The rest of the Guardian articles about Modernism are worth the read, too.

Women's Spatial Acuity Improved By Videogame. (via bOing^2). Good. For one reason or another, 'Raise' by Bocca Juniors is playing in my head.

The mighty Jonathan Meades recently pointed out that recent buildings that claim to be modernist are actually going against the tenets of Modernism - that form and fuction are being separated, and the buidlings are more about the bold statement and the aesthetics than being a machine for living/working.

How many recent buildings claim to be Modernist though, as opposed to being claimed to be modernist by people who understand neither Modernism nor architecture (or for that matter, post-modernism).

Very fair point. Most people confuse modern with modernism.

Anyone else find themselves with "Utah beach, U-u-u-tah beach" running round their heads now?

(fx: raises hand) I think I understand.

And I thought I was the only person who bought that single. On vinyl, sadly, which means I can't be arsed to rip it to MP3. Superb track, sort of Bomb The Bass meets Bentley Rhythm Ace with Siouxsie Sioux on vocals.

Ooo, hang on, I've just remembered the bit where someone starts rapping in a Salt'N'Pepa / Neneh Cherry styl-ee. That was dreadful. What a way to ruin a good song.

Is my memory playing tricks with me, or was the B-side a mostly-instrumental which still had the chorus, but no verses and no awful rapping?

Y'know, I'm going to have to dig out my vinyl. What an utter pain in the arse.

You are going to have to dig out the vinyl and MP3 it because the only version I have is a VHS copy from Snub TV and all versions of the vinyl are impossible to find and expensive when you do. (And there was a Tackhead remix. Curses!)

As soon as I'm solvent (you can all laugh loudly), one of the things to buy on my list is the USB turntable so I can MP3-ize all my vinyl.

I know I could buy it all cheaper from emusic or something, but I'm stubborn that way.
