Bloody hell. The (psychobillyish) sound of dadaist young(ish) Redditch. The Cravats/Paul Hartnoll single is a damn fine thing and exactly what you'd expect. You can win a packet of biscuits selected by The Shend's dog, too. This was why a youthful JH-R spent all his money on odd records, not f- ( Read more... )

The Very Things are still around? :O I *loved* This Is Motortown. Finally tracked down a vinyl copy a couple of years ago, having only had it on tape before. As with so many things I taped off Peel, should have bought it at the time...

It sounds like they (Shend + Dalloway) were pottering around Brighton and bumped into Hartnoll (as you do), whereupon they decided to make a record. And very good it is too.

Very Things/DCL Locomotive records weren't hard to find in Cheltenham, possibly because the record label was just up the road. I can think of no other reason that Roger Driftin' was able to sell me a test pressing of 'Mummy you're a wreck'.

Mind, I never realised there was an album after, um, the one I have.

Yeah, as far as I know, thats pretty much how they met up... Theres a bit of a mutual respect between The Cravats and Paul as Paul is seriously into his punk...

I really love the Cravats/Paul Hartnoll single, but then I would, wouldn't I? ;)

Of course. Orbital-style skronk + The Shend giving it what-for - it's your guarantee of quality right there.

I've only managed to find the MySpac samples thus far, and will probably have to enter a shop and engage in Commerce if I want the full experience. However, the idea of buying a DCL/Cravats/VT record fills me with a bizarre joy, so it will be well worth it.

And there's a Cravats 2xCD retrospective. Hurrah!
