My English teacher (whom I adore and trust with all her book recommendations) said that this was an amazing book. Her summary of the basic plot has me dying to read it.
She's angry about the fact that it's being made into a movie, and I understand why. This book just...isn't a movie-book.

The movie was good, but I agree, it isn't a movie-book. Some of the detail description was not present in the movie, you just have to read the book to feel it.

Coincidence, I actually just started reading this, it was a recommendation from a friend. I find it to be very well-written and the story hooked me right away. I wonder if Saramago's other novels are that interesting.

I haven't read Blindness, but I can say that I've loved all of his books that I have read. I'd especially recommend Baltazar and Blimunda, if you're looking for another.
