smoke filters in windows

Mar 14, 2014 01:45

Spring will eventually be upon us, and that means opening windows to let in the fresh air! Except my next-door neighbors smoke on their porch quite often. This results in cigarette or cigar smoke wafting into the closest windows, which happen to be in my living room. The duplexes in this neighborhood are a driveway apart from each other, so we're ( Read more... )

Wouldn't it be simpler to just ask the neighbors to not smoke so close to you house? If you ask nicely and explain that the smoke is coming in your windows they might move. It's worth a shot.

I doubt it, since those neighbors hate me and I'm really not comfortable with the idea of talking to them, as I expect I'll be laughed at or screamed at for daring to think I have any control over their behaviour or have any right to my own property or health.

The reversible fan thing might work (and running the fans so it draws air out of the room is actually good for cooling, too).

This sounds like the best idea. Check thrift stores as I regularly see them for around $5.

Good thing thrift stores abound in my city. ^__^

I have heard a blowing-out fan is better. I wish my refrigerator & baker's rack could go elsewhere in the kitchen so I could leave the back stairway door & window open & get a long breeze straight through the house. You'd think a room that only gets sunlight at sunset would be a little cooler during the day!

I fucking hate smokers. I'm so pleased you've chosen to keep your home free of smoke while your knowingly poisoning your neighbors instead. I have a 9 week old and this past week we had a similar incident with a neighbor. It makes me so angry.

I'm the landlord, and I require my tenants to not smoke anywhere on my property. Unfortunately, I can't evict my neighbors.

Wait... so they're your tenants, too?

What about those ducted AC filters you can buy at Home Depot or lowes? They come in a huge range of sizes and are fairly cheap.

I think the window fans would be much more effective than filters. I mean, if you smoke next to something with a filter, it will filter the particles, but not all the smell, know what I mean?

They had those little window fans at my Big Lots this week for cheap. And power strips!

I support your initiative in dealing with your own space. They'd probably think you were rude if you asked them not to smoke on their own porch, and moving farther away may not even help. When the wind is just right (or, just wrong), I get smoke in my living room from my across-the-street neighbors.

This. I'd also troll craigslist for them.
