prescription swimming goggles

I'm BLIND AS A BAT (-9.75 OD SPH/ -8 OS SPH) and was hoping to get some swim goggles so I don't look like a fish out of water when I'm IN the water (I'm taking swimming lessons and love it!) I've been looking for script goggles online but am having trouble finding them. I went to my 'go to' site, Zennis, but they only have 'wind' goggles ( Read more... )

Forgive me if this is an obvious question - can you wear contacts? If you can, you can wear them with regular goggles. I do this when I absolutely have to swim, although my prescription isn't that strong.

I know I'm not answering the question, but my (also blind as a bat) Dad got a prescription dive mask. He went to a dive shop and they hooked him up. One imagines that they keep references around for customers and that the companies that do masks would also do goggles.

Online, though, I can't say.

Googling "prescription swimming goggles" (without the quotation marks) resulted in tons of places, including framesdirect, which I've heard good reports about for glasses.

I've bought goggles from HeavyGlare.com four times, for camping and also for eye protection while playing rollerderby. They have great selection and awesome service. It looks like they also do swim goggles; you might try them out.

I swam for 14 years and worked at a swim shop, I have the perfect answer for you! The Speedo Vanquisher Optical goggle. You can buy it from the local store I worked at here: http://www.different-strokes.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=7500213!501 and shipping is only about $6, I believe. If you'd rather buy it somewhere else just search 'speedo optical goggle'. I've worn them and I love them. I much prefer it over swimming in my contacts.

Good luck!

They do only go up to -8 but you should be fine with that. If your eyes are different powers, you're supposed to go with the lower one. You may have to spend more on something custom if you're set on having the exact power in each eye.

I have -7 eyes (both of them, which is nice). I've never even considered looking for prescription goggles; i just risk it with my contacts. Thanks for this; i'll check it out1

I am going to totally take advantage of your possible knowledge and ask about swim caps - I want to start swimming as exercise and I don't really care about my hair getting wet, but it's JUST the right length to be annoying in the water (not long enough to pull back, but long enough to get in my face) so I was thinking of trying a swim cap. The issue is that I have a big head, and I'm allergic to latex, so I'm limited to silicone or lycra.

Do any of the brands generally fit 'bigger'?
