I've seen this website occasionally discussed in replies to posts about budgeting, etc., but I haven't seen anyone specifically ask about its reliability/security ( Read more... )

I've been using mint for a few months now and haven't had any issues. Obviously, my 1 experience does not represent the norm, but it came highly recommended to me by several friends that have been using it for much longer than me.

My biggest problem with it is making myself use it properly.

The financial blog http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/ did a review of it. And on searching I find that they've mentioned it in some other posts.

Here is the link to their articles that mention mint.com - http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/searchresults?cx=partner-pub-7020825708900781%3Asowvjyl9zu5&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=mint.com&sa.x=0&sa.y=0&sa=search&siteurl=www.getrichslowly.org%2Fblog%2F#1174.

When I signed up for it I was under the impression it was free. It is not. They withdraw money from your bank account if you add your bank account to the mint account... stupid.

I'm just using windows spreadsheet now.

I've been using mint.com since 2008 and never had any money withdrawn. in fact, it's served to alert me when my own banks started charging weird maintenance fees etc, so it's been safer with mint.

If you have had charges, I'd recommend investigating, because it means someone else has the ability to charge your account and may continue to do so in the future. Mint clearly states that it is a free service so there's no fine print to watch out for, sounds more like fraud going on.

We never had any problems with security, but my husband complained that it didn't always update as fast as he wanted it to, so the information Mint displayed wasn't always 100% accurate. So just don't use it for all of your mental budgeting unless you're also the person managing the account and you check it frequently, because then you'll know "Oh, it says we have $328 available, but I know that I just withdrew $75 and spent another $35 so we actually only have $218" and you'll be safe from overdrawing.

It updates often and you can refresh it at any time, it just depends on how fast your bank updates.. they are usually the delayed ones.

I just started using Mint maybe a week ago, and so far everything seems secure.
