60s desserts?

Nov 17, 2010 15:30

I'm going to a Mad Men-themed party this Saturday and somehow managed to volunteer to make the pudding. I'd like to come bearing something that was popular in the 60s (uh, rather not Jell-o and Cool Whip) and is relatively easy to make (I'm horribly busy and can factor in lots of time for something to bake in the oven or chill in the fridge, but ( Read more... )

My fav - and oh so trashy 60's pudding dish is Watergate Salad. I know it's Jell-o and Cool Whip but it tastes so yummy, and is easy. And most stuff in the 60's involved prepackaged crap like jello and cool whip.

Omg, my mom makes this still - it's like a staple at all of our family parties.

you could celebrate the moon landing with a Crazy Crater Chocolate Marshmallow Moon Cake especially if you can fashion a little astronaut with a flag out of marshmellows

More like my bad - pudding in British English, which is what I speak, is any dessert.

Both crater cakes look interesting. Thank you!

Ahahaha! My husband may have some objections to disappearing, though.

Jell-o desserts LOOK fabulous, and I absolutely agree that it's the iconic dessert, but oh how I dislike the tastes. I can't really bring myself to make anything in that vein. Ye olde carrot cake or bundt cake I can manage.

Try the vintage_recipes community - they post all sorts of god-awful 50's and 60's stuff. :D

Whoops - actually, the vintage_ads community is where I saw all the jello stuff recently - they just had a jello theme competition. :D

Thank you for the links! I had no idea there was a vintage recipes comm, but of course, one of the first things I should have done was searching interests here...
