I just got back home from seeing Beulah at The Social. It was better than any show I've been to in a very long time. Maybe the best show I've ever been to. Maybe ( Read more... )

Wow. I saw them in October in New York and it was the fucking worst show ever. They sucked so much dick. What the hell happened.

I don't know. I wasn't really even expecting to like them live. I listened to the live recording on their website which wasn't good at all. But I genuinely had a better time at that show than, well, just about any I can remember. The shows that I've been to recently, prior to seeing Beulah, has been pretty big disappointments and I was starting to think that I couldn't enjoy live music anymore. But it's probably because I still actually listen to Beulah a lot and I like them.

For one because they were old and ugly and boring. I didn't like them on a personal superficial physical level. The two lead guys are way to adult-looking to be in a "hip" rock and roll band. Then, the keyboard player was sitting down like a pussy. And they kept doing really stupid ugly things. So that pissed me off.

Then, ever since I heard them in that Nissan commercial it makes me think "Would this song sound stupid if it were in a car commercial?" Kind of like when punk rock first started getting on the radio and it was like "Well I don't listen to THAT kind of punk rock." And then you think, "Well, wait, do I?"

And their openers were annoying as fuck too. And they just continued doing the same things that they did.

BUT!

They came back and played an encore, and it was really good and definitely made up for the whole night.

To be more accurate here is what I wrote in my livejournal about the show:

Man, I went to see Beulah, John Vanderslice, and Matt Suggs tonight at the Bowery Ballroom so excited, and it totally sucked. ( ... )
