What's the difference b/w Beef Tips and Beef Stew meat?

I guess a better question would be, can I use beef tips when a recipe calls for beef stew meat? (and vs. verse). Will the meal taste different?

how are you cooking it? if it's a recipe that calls for a long cooking time (like over an hour or in the crock pot), any meat will do. if not, specifically get beef tips. they are higher quality than stew meat (from my experience). Stew meat goes in stews (I know, obvious) because stew sits for a longer time on the heat and therefore doesnt need to be the best cut. beef tips are usually used in stuff that is cooked quicker and so the flavor will need to be more intense. But seriously, if it is gonna be cooked a while, it doesn't matter what meat you use.

I was planning on making beef stew in a crock pot.

then it'll make no difference. The nice thing about the crockpot is you can use ANY cut of meat and 99% of the time it'll come out exactly the same.
