You can get external drive enclosures that then attach to your PC via USB. Unfortunately, I have no personal experience with them so I don't know how annoying setup may be.
I'll see about diging up more information for you tomorrow.
1. Take out hd from new comp, replace with old, retrieve information.
2. Everyone should have a cd/dvd burner installed on their comp just for this purpose alone. Ghost a backup of your computer to save yourself this problem. Or just the important stuff.
3. There are male/female adapters. Females are the ones you stick things into and the males have... well you guessed it. Are you missing male or female adapter/cables.
*****To prevent this problem from ever happening again, you could do this. Go to Best Buy and buy a Flash Drive. They are portable, can be attached to a keychain and can be inserted into any USB Port. Documents, files, whatever can be saved on these.*****
