virgin shamers

I don't get people who feel the need to make fun of others (non-asexual others) for being virgins by choice, especially when they get really personal and vicious about it with literally no provocation other than someone saying that they're a virgin by choice for whatever reason, or that they're happy they waited for their wedding night or whatever ( Read more... )

Well, the thing about me and this label is that technically I actually fit it, but I consider it kind of silly to label it an "orientation" as a lot of people try to. In terms of myself, I think of it as a) I have a "responsive" sexuality, which generally wants to be set off by a specific person (my boyfriend can turn me on like nobody's business, way more than anyone else) and b) in general I fall lower on the sliding scale of sex drive than some people do. I think asexual is also not really a label that's strictly necessary as such, I would simply say of a person like that that they have a very low-to-nonexistant sex drive; which is perfectly normal, as is having a lower but still active or very high and active sex drive. I think that our culture is far too sex-obsessed, and that causes a lot of this labeling of things that are normal, when the culture expects everyone to be constantly on the hunt for sex with just about anyone, and if you aren't you are somehow "weird." We're also label-obsessed, and think we have to stick a name ( ... )

Ia that people totally get themselves stuck with labels. I dont' like labels in general because like you said people are often in flux and even if they aren't, they still won't necessarily fit neatly into a category because people are more complicated than a simple label. Also, you get situations where someone only partly fits a label and gets lambasted by other people who also claim said label for being "a bad _____", which sucks.
