Having turned seventeen about two months ago, Melody was delighted with being able to perform spells outside of school. It made helping out at her father's studio much easier (she could now clean up to fifteen camera lenses at once, provided that she stay out of sight, so as not to frighten the non-magical folks nearby), and she could apparate at will to wherever she pleased...with the same condition in place, of course.

Turning a corner near her father's Shoreditch studio, Melody ducked into an alley and disappeared with a crack, knowing full well that she'd instantly materialized in a place where such a thing wouldn't be surprising. Said place was her friend Lou's home, where she'd been invited over for a bit of...well, a bit of what she wasn't really sure, but perhaps it would include a bit of wheatgrass juice and practicing of various, lovely stringed instruments. The aforementioned wheatgrass juice was currently sloshing around in a thermos in the large, woven tote bag that Melody shouldered. The thing was rather shabby and worn ( ... )

Cozy was a good word for the little farm house. It was small, but well-furnished, and it had a very old feeling to it-- older even than Melody's thermos. Given the state of the Hawkin's family wealth, it was easy to see that the house had been in the family for many generations. The sound of a horse whinnying out back added to the songs of many different birds whistling and crowing in the trees surrounding the house, as well as the bees buzzing about the front garden. There was a squwak in the closest tree to the door, and a tuft of feathers caught the wind as their owner's song was depleted from the general harmony of the group. Moments later, an obese grey cat appeared and rubbed against Melody's legs, a couple feathers caught in its paws and the fur around its lips.

"Love," came the shout of the handsome voiced woman, "I swear I heard an Apparition! Check the sneakoscopes, won't you?"

"Mam, it's Melody, she's seventeen, you know!" Lou called back, her own curious soprano ringing as she trotted to the front door and swung it open ( ... )

"HEY, LOU!" Melody cried brightly as soon as the door swung open. Her bright grin faltered a bit as loud yells sounded from somewhere inside the house, but she was quick to replace the grin with an even bigger one ( ... )

"Oh, you don't have to be so kind," Lou said, blushing in spite of herself at Melody's comment about the house. "It's small, and it's a hundred miles from anywhere important... but we like it." there was an upbeat note of contenment to her voice when she spoke ( ... )
