Liesel was also shopping for school books, unsurprisingly. She'd gotten most of her own books already and was waiting for her little sister and her mother to finish. Liesel began to search for books on Arithmancy and after finding a particularly interesting one, she moved to a location that wasn't too crowded and read.
Immediately after Maxie bumped into her, Liesel blushed. Of course, that would shock no one. Liesel blushed often. To her credit, she wasn't at all angry. It would have been rather hypocritical of her, considering she'd recently bumped into Ben Connelly.
She then saw that it was Maxie and smiled sheepishly.
"It's fine! It happens to the best of us!" she said in an unusually perky manner. Liesel was glad to see someone she knew and felt comfortable with.
"I take it you're shopping for school? You're taking your NEWTs this year, right?"
Maxie covered her face with her hands and wailed. "Argh, don't remind me. I have no idea how I'm going to make it this year, I really don't. Promise me something Liese. If I look like I'm about to go mental any time during the year, slap me."
Maxie took a deep breath to calm herself. There was no need to start panicking yet, school hadn't even started.
"Are you here with your family?" Maxie stood on tiptoes and glanced around for Liesel's family even before the girl had a chance to answer. Other people's families were a fascination of Maxie's.
Liesel diverted her eys as Maxie covered her face. She hadn't meant to bring up a sensitive subject. She simply wasn't very good at socializing, even with people she got along with. Once Maxie took her breath, Liesel began to hope that Maxie knew she was just being Liesel. It took a couple of seconds for her to respond to Maxie.
"Sorry, Maxie. You'll do just fine, you're intelligent. Assuming that I'm not going mad over OWLs, I'll certainly slap you."
Liesel began to look around for her parents and sister. They all seemed to be in different places. Her mother was getting Georgiana's books while Georgiana was attempting to flirt with boys who still believed in cooties. Her father was examining everything, always the anthropologist.
"Yes, since it's Georgiana's first year at Hogwarts both my mother and father came. I'm not quite sure how I feel about her entering the Wizarding World." Liesel bit her lip a bit too hard.
"Ow!" she exclaimed. She then laughed nervously, as she was understandably rather embarassed.
Maxie slapped her forehead. "I can't believe I forgot, you're taking your OWLs this year! Ten knuts says you finish with the top grades," she said with a confident smile.
Max sympathetically patted Liesel on the shoulder. The last thing the girl needed was something else to worry about, she was already high-strung because of schoolwork. Now she'd have to watch out for her sister as well.
"I'm sure she'll be okay," she said reassuringly. "I was just about to get an ice-cream, you wanna come? Come on, it'll take your mind off things."
