It was Brandon's fault. Really, it was. He should know better than to just go running into the common room without looking where he was going, especially when he knew Max wouldn't be in class. And yet, that was precisely what he had done, and before he could do more than open his eyes wide and give a small gasp, he'd gone and crashed right into her, right in the middle of one of her...tumbly things.

Okay, so he didn't know the names, but that didn't make him a bad friend, did it? He supported Max's gymnastics, so it was okay that he didn't know the names of the moves. Well, that's what he told himself anyway.

"Ow," he said as he disentangled himself from her and got to his feet. "Sorry about that." He offered her his hand to help her up, then made his way over to the closest couch and flopped down on it to nurse his not-a-wounds.

"Spectacular tumbling," he added. "Really top drawer, right up until I knocked you over."

Maxie saw him before he saw her but it's fairly hard to shout out 'Brandon stop' when you're standing on your hands upside down. All she could do was gargle slightly before he'd tipped himself and her over. "You got that right," she replied as he untangled their bodies. "Ow indeed. Oh well, not completely your fault, some wanker keeps moving the furniture," she grinned, accepting his hand and standing up.

The shock of being knocked on her arse had stunned her but there was no damage. She did a front split (and yes, the name did make her giggle) while her best friend sat on a nearby couch.

"I was doing a handstand, not tumbling, get it right fool," she joked. It didn't bother her in the slightest that Brandon didn't know what the moves were called. After all, she didn't ask him what the notes were called when he played guitar, did she? It was enough that they both took interest in each others hobbies.

"So what were you doing, coming in at sixty miles and hour, not watching where you're going? Something on your mind?"

Brandon bit his lip, unsure if he should say what was really bothering him. He was worried about Esme being sick in the infirmary, but saying so would make him sound like a giant womanly loser.

Of course, Brandon was a giant womanly loser, especially in the company of Maxie. Someone had to be the girl in this friendship, after all!

"Esme," he said simply, drawing his knees up to his chest and wrapping his arms around them. "I mean, I was...thinking of going to see her." He blushed. "All right, I wasn't exactly, I was more going to try and sneak in because Madam Pomfrey said if I came one more time this week she'd ban me from the place forever, but you know...Esme."

He sighed, then shook his head to clear it. "Probably best I ran into you. Not literally, of course, because it's lucky I didn't break your leg or my arm and then we'd both be screwed out of our hobbies, but you know, in general. Tumble some more, then? Or handstand some more? You should do that."

Of course he was a giant womanly loser! That's why Maxie loved him (and ooccasionally teased him about having breasts)! "It's probably best," she agreed, even though she knew he didn't mean it. "There's not much you could do if you visited again, although if you wanted, I'd be more than happy to strain something, you know, pull my calf muscle or something. Then when Pomfrey's distracted by me, you could sneak in and see Esme."

She grinned as if this was the sanest plan she had ever come up with and did a backwards roll back into a handstand. A couple steps with her hands and then she was back on her feet.
