Unfortunately for the new Care of Magical Creatures professor, he had no idea that the newly appointed Headmistress just so happened to be in library at the same time he was. BuggerMac had been there for educational reasons. He was brushing up on his knowledge to make sure that he had been treating a certain group of creatures the right way. Hidden behind a shelf, at the moment at least, with his face burried in a book, he could see or be seen by Dolores Umbridge. The woman was so unfathomable. She just rubbed him the wrong way. He never did like her, as former Headmistress (from the first time she had been at Hogwarts), nor as acting on the Wizengamot ( ... )

Dolores Umbridge would not find the situation the slightest bit unfortunate. Oh no, she would see this as an opportunity for him to receive proper guidance before his mind was tainted by the rubbish notions of the rest of the Hogwarts staff. Merlin knows she'd spent enough time dealing with their atrocity already - he was lucky to be graced with a figure so knowledgeable of the needs of students... a change in educational standards!

The fact that Mac Thorne found himself in the library was already a good mark in Umbridge's book. Because of the poor condition of said library, however, she'd suggest that he find alternative means for examining his methods of magical creature care.

The librarian seemed to have little respect for her superior. The woman had rolled her eyes, spinning on her heel in a ludicrous fashion. Well, Dolores Umbridge could recognize a helpless case when she saw one. She'd simply do her own reorganization later ( ... )

Mac froze in his spot as she had caught him trying to escape. Bloody hell. He was busted. Sadly, he was so close to have been hidden from her view again, but clearly he was not fast enough or quiet enough. Now he would be subjected to her scrutiny.

He turned to her slowly and faced her boldly, greeting her with a blank face and monotonic voice, "Hello Headmistress."

"What is it that you would like to speak with me about?"

No person could leave fast enough or quiet enough to escape Dolores Umbridge - not once she'd sensed their presence. If they were in need of her excellent tutelage? They did not have a chance to go undetected. In fact, Umbridge probably knew that she'd be speaking with Mac Thorne before she knew she'd be speaking to Mac Thorne. It was a wonder to behold.

Scrutiny? Rather harsh term. Dolores rather thought the term 'aid' was much more fitting. Unless he had something to be scrutinized for, and with the staff that Dumbledore tended to hire? She'd not be surprised in the slightest if he did - no matter how new he was to the position ( ... )
