Week Name/Date/Time: 'Countdown to Darkness' / Tuesday October 25th, 9:00 am Location: Courtyard Open To: Adrien Bennet Currently Involving: Veronica Myers
It was 9 AM on a Tuesday morning. Why the hell was he even awake? He should be back in his dorms sleeping but his dormmates just had to wake him up. Bah. But he had a plan. Oh yes, it was a wonderful plan involving sitting in his favorite seat in the courtyard and moping about and generally being lazy and unproductive. What fun.
But what was this? He stopped in his tracks, tilting his head to one side to stare at the the girl sitting in his spot. What on earth did the little Claw think she was doing?
Not that he had any claim on that spot but he liked to think he did.
"Oi, kidlet," he growled, striding forward so he was standing infront of her. "You're in my seat." He crossed his arms over his chest and glared down at her, trying to look like the threatening, intimidating snake that he was. Except it didn't really work because Adrien wasn't really all that intimidating. Ah well. A for effort.
When Veronica heard Adrien's growl, she looked up from her book and blinked at his tone. Normally, she would have just walked away, following her motto of 'run like hell' and 'avoid confrontation'. Today though, she merely peered at him. "Your seat? Your name's not here. And there are perfectly good seats everywhere else. Why don't you try one of those?"
Woah, she even blinked in surprise at her own tone. Where did that come from? And why couldn't she find it in herself to just walk away? It would, of course, be more beneficial to her health and well-being if she just could. But she seemed glued to the spot, wishing that her mouth wouldn't start babbling again as it did during breakfast.
Erm, what? She was still sitting there speaking rather defiantly to him. This what not at all what he expected; she should be dutifully getting up and scampering away. The funny thing was that she seemed as surprised by her words as he did. Hurm.
"Senority rights," he drawled. "Since I'm 3 years older-" 4 maybe? He didn't really know or care "-and an upperclassman, you're expected to do as I say. Didn't your mother tell you to respect your elders?" He very much doubted that this was what parents meant when they recited that mantra but that was besides the point. "So, for those of us who are a little slow, that means that when I tell you to move, you do as you're told."
This was the most pathetic thing to be arguing about and even Adrien was aware of it. Still, it was the principle of the matter. He didn't really appreciate mere children talking back to him so the fact that he didn't really care where he sat was little to no concern of his.
Veronica actually laughed at his senority rights spiel, catching herself by surprise again at her outburst. She raised an eyebrow. "'Elders' usually refer to the generations preceding your own, not those in your own generation, and respect is earned, not given. So, when you get old enough to be my father or you've actually earned my respect - either one, your choice - I will move."
With that, she went back to her book. She didn't think she had an inner Gryffindor lying inside of her, but speaking her mind actually felt good for a change.
