Niamh had run straight for her dormitory after her run-in with Wesley the afternoon before. She hadn't left it since, not even for meals, and she was just then agonizing over her skipped Study Hall. Her cheeks were still tear-stained and her hair was a mess, but her stomach was rumbling and she knew she had Astronomy tonight. She couldn't bear to skip her favorite class, not even with the possibility of Wesley lurking about. At least she knew she wouldn't need her wand for that class. My wand! tears welled up again.
She shook her head and wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, then she took a deep breath and stared at the door of her dormitory for a moment. She had to leave it sometime. Her dormmates had all made it clear that if she was still in there when they got back from their classes, they'd pick her up and chuck her into the hallway. She swallowed and opened the door to peer outside. At least I'll still be safe from any Slytherins in the common room, she consoled herself, And maybe Rylie or Juhi or someone will be there. They might know what to do.
She forced herself to walk down the hall to the stairwell and slowly descended, peeking her small blonde head out into the common room, eyes wide and looking a right mess. She hoped no one would spot her until she'd found one of her older friends to talk to. She was determined to tell someone what had happened, now that she was sick of crying.
