w00t! bike on, dude!

i also have a dahon folder in my stable. i ride it to & from the train every week. i think it doesn't have enough gears for ease of hill climbs in this hilly terrain, though.

no, the helmet should not be choking you! you might be wearing the helmet too far back on your head, or it might be adjusted wrong. go back to the bike shop where you bought it and get them to help you adjust it properly, preferably at a time of day when they are not swamped.

good luck, and good for you! -:D

I do have a strong gag reflex, which doesn't help. Sometimes even just having something touching my throat, like the cape the hairdresser puts around you, will cause me to start gagging.

I definitely don't wear my helmet too far back, but the strap may need to be adjusted. I keep loosening the strap, but I don't want it too loose, so I'm willing to try something else.

Thanks for the suggestion about going to the bike shop. I'll see if they can help me adjust the chin strap properly.

That's awesome you're getting back into biking! Way to go!

i agree with what Heidi said, the helmet should be comfortable, otherwise have the bike shop people help you adjust it.
