Don't worry, you're in highly-paid company. The law firm in the US who's _only_ job in our 6 month relocation was to smooth the visa arrangements screwed it up such that it took well over a month longer than it was supposed to. Didn't know heaps of details that would have made it easier.
They blamed it on my company not providing details in time (likely), but also didn't push hard enough to actually get the information they needed.
So yeah, the only real answer is _start_really_bloody_early_ for anything involving moving countries, because it will take longer. It always takes longer. And make sure you find out all the rules. And still expect arbitrary crap to go wrong.
Also, *hugs*. At this stage there's nothing you can do to speed things up.

I picked up a short term contract 2 months ago, which has finished, and I'm not really inclined to look for more work but I guess I'll have to!

An update - I called them again, and I spoke to some other guy who said the two bank accounts are fine. So I chucked it in the mail. *fingers crossed that I haven't just thrown away $465 and 2 months*
