logical fallacy and a little frustration-venting

Probably 80-90% of the men who go to the gym I go to can be categorized in one of two groups: those who are in very much out of shape, usually quite obese with man-boobs and flabs all around and those whose bodies look like it was sculpted by a modern-day Michaelangelo -- I'm talking about chiseled chests, muscled back and legs and a six-pack for ( Read more... )

Eating helps, you know. You won't get much muscle mass if your body doesn't have the building blocks for it. And when you don't eat, it probably takes apart whatever muscle mass you happen to have.

And I believe the people you see at the gym are simply two separate human groups. The ones with the biceps and the six-packs were born that way (pure evolution: max muscle mass, min brain cells). The ones with the flabs - too.
Most of us mere mortals can hope for no more than our current body, looking and feeling a bit better.

My husband has very sculpted arm & leg muscles, and is incredibly strong. He also has a beer gut. It's just genetics. Well, and maybe too many carbs, in his case. But you have to start with 6-pack abs to end up with them.

Yeah, I know this and (even) agree to what avgboojie said, but they sell you the idea that you can become like this, and seeing all these people around you that look like that enhances this illusion. And although I know all these things, it still manages to get to me sometimes.
