Fic recs?

Aug 08, 2006 21:03

Hey. I am looking for fan fiction in which the Methos/Duncan relationship starts after "Methos", "Chivalry" and continues on until Comes A Horseman and then has them getting back together afterward. I know I have read stories like this even if they only briefly refer to the pre-Horseman relationship, but I can't remember any of them. ( Read more... )

I'll unlurk for a moment here.

I've read so much by so many over the years that it all begins to blend together. I've only come back to reading Highlander fic over the last year or so and I have no only missed out on some lovely stuff while I was away but have lost more links to more things I enjoyed than I can recall. The most wonderful discovery I've made on LJ in this regard is crack_van. Not only is Highlander regularly featured (and has about 240 recs listed as of today) but the majority of those recs are Duncan/Methos. They include everything from AU to crossovers and comedy to hard SF to angst so thick you need a chainsaw. Fandom classics, prize winners, and works published in 'zines are included and the links will find you at personal websites of fantastic authors but also at archives where there be plenty of of Highlander fic of every description. Head over to the profile of crack_van, click the memories button, then scroll down and click on Highlander. I have my personal favorites from the 240 listed (all of which are D/M) listed in ( ... )

Thanks this is a great site. I thought I had read tons but I only recognized 3 of the titles you listed (Save the Last Dance is by far my favorite Methos/Duncan story of all time). Now I have lots more fun stuff to read. Thanks!

I'd have to put Misrule near the top of my list for "happy ending" D/M (and also for props for actually making me look up a couple of words while reading -- a rare occurrence for someone with a Lit Crit degree -- and some of the sentence construction, for me, moves into the sublime where I would compare it to Mervyn Peake) and One for the Road as one of the all-time greats I have ever read in any fandom. If you are into Stargate: SG1 at all you HAVE to read the crossover. Methos is fantastic, Jack is spot on and putting them in a room together is so fucking cool I can't even begin to describe it. As for laughs and AU with a twist and an Amanda, Fitz, and Richie that couldn't be better Eat Your Heart Out Earnest Hemingway had me laughing so hard (particularly the Fitz and Duncan banter) that I could hardly breathe. I don't have Krieger's Ahnung linked but crack_van does and anything by MacGeorge is always a superior read. Heck, you could probably just read MacGeorge fic for a good month or so and call yourself happy. ^_^ Enjoy it. This ( ... )

Try Killa's Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark series ( here). The first story starts during Chivalry; all Killa's stuff is great but this series fits the specific requirement you've listed. Also try Taz's The Bark of Dante and The Fuse. Those two writers are my personal favorites--which, of course, is not to say there aren't many other wonderful stories incorporating the timeline you're looking for... but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Thanks. I normally read stories that take place after the series ends but I was watching an episode last night thinking: no, there was definitely something going on before then. Thanks for indulging me!

I'm not sure if you're interested in stories in which their relationship starts after CAH but before the end of the series, but if you are, Bone's Interlunation series is wonderful. It can be found here.
