Title: Remember (Part 11/?)
Fandom & Pairing Babylon 5 Susan/Talia
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Irinia just stepped out of her bedroom into the main living space of her quarters. Looking around the spacious room she was quite pleased. She sat down on the couch and closed her eyes to meditate. She couldn't clear her mind, it kept going back to the incident with the station's personnel.
Irinia got up from the couch and went over to the comm unit. She brought up Commander Ivanova's service record. She wanted to look at the photo of her again. Seeing the commander's face unnerved her. The resemblance was uncanny. She lifted a hand to the image and traced the face with her fingertips. The chime sounded alerting Irinia that someone was at her door. She closed down the comm unit and called for her visitor to enter.
When she saw who her guest was she couldn't keep the sigh from escaping her lips.
"Did you stop by to harass me some more Mr. Garabaldi?"
"I'm sorry for the intrusion but I need to speak with you."
"I think I have been more than accommodating with your inquiries. I thought we had this situation resolved what else could there be to discuss?"
"I'm not here to interrogate you, I'm here on behalf of a friend?
Irinia knitted her brows in confusion.
Michael quickly interrupted, "Please let me explain."
"Fine explain but then I want you to leave."
"This friend that I am talking about was very close with Commander Ivanova. When she heard about you she insisted on seeing you."
"Is there a bulletin out there announcing my arrival? I'm not some sideshow act." Irinia angrily got up from the couch and headed to the door.
"I would like you to leave to now Mr. Garabaldi."
"Please just meet with her. She only wants to see you nothing more."
Irinia could see that Michael was being sincere. What harm could it do to meet this woman.
"Alright I'll meet with your friend. But she does understand that I am not Ivanova."
"Yes."
Talia stepped slowly into the room. She scanned the room until her eyes fell upon her. Her heart started beating faster, she was having trouble breathing. She tried to speak but nothing came out.
She made her way to the couch and sat down. Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath she tried to calm herself.
Michael saw all this play out and rushed to Talia's side. Irinia just stood silently by the door. She casually observed the new arrival.
"Talia are you okay?" Michael gently laid his hand on her back.
"I'm fine just a little light headed."
Irinia went into the kitchen and got a glass of water. Irinia slowly approached her guests.
"Here this might help."
Talia looked up at Irinia, as she reached for the glass their fingers brushed. Talia looked into Irinia's eyes the moment their fingers made contact. She felt a familiar spark of electricity at the touch. Irinia quickly looked away, she could feel the blush that was spreading on her face. She mumbled a quick apology and moved away from Talia.
Talia was overwhelmed being in the presence of this woman who looked so much like Susan. There was no way she wasn't her. She knew in her heart this was her Susan.
"Thank you for the water." Irinia finally looked at her.
"Your welcome Ms.???"
"I'm sorry how rude of me. I'm Talia Winters." The telepath held out her hand. Irinia hesitated at first but then grasped her hand in a firm handshake.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Ms. Winters. I'm Irinia Kralick."
Hearing her name spoken that way sent shivers down her spine. It sounded so much like Susan. She was transported back to a time when she and Susan first met. She could still remember how her name sounded coming from the russian. When she said her name it was like a caress on her soul.
Michael must have thought it sounded like Susan, a small gasp escaped his lips.
Irinia looked between Talia and Michael confusion clearly etched on her face.
"Did I say something wrong?"
"No it's just the way you said my name reminded me so much of Susan. Tears started to well up in the telepath's eyes.
Irinia saw this and started to feel bad.
"I'm sorry that my presence here has caused such sadness. I wish there was something I could do to help."
Michael was surprised at Irinia's friendly demeanor. Perhaps seeing Talia has softened her a bit. He figured he would take advantage of the situation.
"Actually Ms. Kralick there is something you can do for us. How do you feel about a DNA scan? It would let us know for sure who you really are."
Irinia was starting to get irritated again. She let the anger flash in her eyes.
"I already told you who I am. I told you that I remember growing up on Proxima. I have memories of my life there and not of Susan's life."
"What if your memories were altered in some way to make you think that?"
Michael and Irinia both turned to look at Talia. Those were the first words the telepath had spoken in awhile.
"Who would do such a thing? What would be the reason? I find your theories ridiculous, I am Irinia Kralick and not Susan Ivanova."
Irinia stalked over to her door. "I would like the two of you to leave right now."
She could see Michael getting ready to protest. She held up her hand. "Save it Mr. Garabaldi I did what you asked now please leave before I have you thrown out."
Michael and Talia headed out of her quarters. When the door closed Irinia slid down the door as tears spilled down her cheeks.
