Arcana: Heirophant
Time Period: 1934
Name: Theodore (pronounced Teodoro by his older relatives, and called Theo by his friends and siblings) Bianchessi
Gender: Male
Blood Type: AB
Birthday/Sign: May 19th /Taurus
Age: 15
Occupation/Grade: Sophomore
Room: 306
PB: N/A
Appearance: Theodore stands at about 5'8", tans very easily, and (even though he hit puberty and a growth spurt to his current height some time in middle school) he's really started to grow into his height with a build that has the potential to be classically athletic if only he was the active sort. His hair is dark brown-black and obnoxiously curly, but he cuts it very short and carefully styles it to have more of a slight wave. His expression can be a little intimidating, his dark brown eyes shrewdly sharp and calculating, and his smile always a little too close to a smirk. The lucky twit was blessed with relatively decent looks, and he's been known to take advantage of it on more than one occasion.
Theo wears his uniform to the T, and is rarely caught underdressed otherwise. Matching jackets and slacks and crisp white linen shirts make up most of his wardrobe, aside from a tweed-check trench coat and driving glasses for when he's out on the road; at the slightest hint of winter he bundles up in his heavy black woolen coat with it's removable rabbit lining and the leather winter gloves. Everything he owns is well-tailored and taken care of, to the last detail; he's learned better from his family, and he seems determined to dress with the intention of being taken seriously or being thought of as older than he really is. On those rare occasions he's in the shop, he'll wear worn-down layman's clothes, but no one from school ever really gets the chance to see that.
Theo has a pair of reading glasses, as he's horribly farsighted. He's made it a point to perfect his demeaning look over the top of his frames.
Personality: Theo has always been equal parts spoiled and high maintenance, and a bit vain and short-tempered - whether it comes to his looks or his assumptions about intelligence. To be fair, he is rather smart, and even more dangerous than his academic achievements is his manipulative cleverness. He knows how to drive a bargain, how to bribe, and how to charm; it comes naturally to him, despite his otherwise abrasive and discriminating personality. He does what it takes to succeed, pride be damned.
He comes across as aloof and snobbish, unless you're his next targeted "business acquaintance". In class, he often only speaks up if he's certain of winning a debate or impressing the teacher (and often putting down another student at the same time). He's certainly not very pleasant to be around, unless you happen to be one of the very few who's on his good side; within his select circle of close friends, he can be surprisingly generous, offering rides, bribes and recommendations using his family connections, surprisingly sensible advice, expensive gifts and meals, and offers to take long vacations to the family country home. For Theo, showing appreciation is easiest through material means; conversely, he becomes awfully possessive of things and people he considers specifically his.
Theodore comes from a very proud, and very traditional, Italian family. Traditional to the point where his older family members favor other families that come from the same region of Italy that they originated from (Naples, thankyouverymuch. None of those nasty Sicillians) and shun most of the poorest immigrants. Having grown up with this, he's not exactly the most open-minded or welcoming person. In fact, he fits a whole number of "ist"s: sexist, classist, and even a bit racist - and while he needs to be taken down a few notches, he never veers to what his era would call extremes. As spoiled as he acts, however, his family is still considered "new money" after only really becoming wealthy a few years before Theo was born, and his parents carry a lot of lower-middle-class values concerning self-sufficiency that they've unintentionally impressed upon their born-wealthy children. As such, Theo is forever the type to believe in the mantra "If you want it done right, do it yourself."
When Theo is proven wrong, he gets adamantly stubborn before accepting defeat (often to the point of making himself look somewhat foolish if someone else isn't around to get him to come around to his senses), and he's a horribly sore loser. Not only is some sort of sneaky, off-handed social vengeance on it's way, but he becomes downright surly and mopey. Like any good man of the times, though, he refuses to let this show in public, bottling up as much as possible in order to at least pretend to be emotionally strong and stoic.
In his free time, Theo likes to tinker around with gizmos and models of all kinds. He's very much at home in the shop with his uncles, whether it be with bicycles or motor-driven mechanics. Fittingly, Theo has a fascination with any kind of transportation: cars, trains, and boats. He's also eagerly awaiting taking his european tour with his family when he graduates.
History: The second son of a reasonably wealthy family settled in Detroit, Theodore always knew he'd be expected to take his place in the family company, therefore taking his education seriously. His childhood was fairly standard for the time: the family accountant-slash-secretary keeping an eye on the children's lessons when they were on break from the private gender-segregated Catholic schools they attended (where Theo hadn't hesitated to become the schoolyard bully using fear, gossip, and his cousins' fists to back him up), time spent in the family workshop with his grandfather and uncles being taught how to fiddle with mechanics and operate the cars they produced, and the yearly labor day weekend family vacation to the country.
During the depression, certain things were trimmed back - vacations were kept frugal, hand-me-downs were more common among the children, Theodore's mother took up the gardening again aside other housework instead of hiring help, the factories were stripped down to the bare minimum, and there was a rumor that illegal bootlegging along the border to Canada was helping to line the family wallets - but they recovered relatively well.
Adessi Hall provided an excellent education for his older sister, and when it opened doors for its co-ed program, Theodore's mother enrolled him as soon as he was of age, partially to get him away from the crumbling Detroit economy and partially in hopes he'd become a little more well-rounded when out of an all-boys Catholic school. Despite his good grades and participation in clubs, Theodore had a bit of trouble adjusting to the very female-dominated atmosphere of the school, especially coming from a very traditional Italian family with strict gender roles, and butted heads with female students often the first year attending. He's gotten a little better, if only at hiding the ideas his very patriarchal family taught him growing up.
About the Bianchessi Motor Corp. : What started as a respectable bicycle shop run by Theodore's grandfather and great-uncles evolved into a fledgling moped/automobile garage, and then boomed into a much larger corporation that specialized in racing and luxury cars after accumulating more sponsors following a Grand Prix title in 1908.
