Character Information

General
Canon Source: Kuroshitsuji.
Canon Format: Manga.
Character's Name: Joker.
Character's Age: 25.
Conditional: N/A.

What form will your character's NV take? A small, rather pretty enameled cosmetic mirror.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: None.
Conditional: Joker's power will be a euphoric touch. People who come into skin-to-skin contact with him will find themselves experiencing an extremely intense feeling of euphoria, like the best drug high they could possibly hope to have. The sensation's duration depends on how long they were in contact with Joker, and his power is neither voluntary nor reliable, and works only when it wants to work.

There is a side-effect, though, which is addiction. The more often a person experiences the euphoric effects, the more likely and more strongly they become addicted to them.
Weapons: His prosthetic arm actually detaches, and there's a stiletto blade hidden in one of the bones. :| Not even fucking joking.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Joker.
Point in Canon: After his death. .. Basically, after returning to Baron Kelvin's manor, Joker welcomed Ciel and Sebastian, then was forced to put on a show with some of the kidnapped children. The baron showed Ciel the set-up in his basement that was meant to re-enact Ciel's sacrifice, then was killed while Joker tried to save him (because without the baron, how could the kids in the workhouse survive?). After this, Joker himself was killed and the mansion and everything in it (including the children) was torched to the ground.
Conditional: N/A.

Character Personality: Joker is a young man who's seen a great deal of hardship in his short life, and though it's left its mark, he is still surprisingly well-adjusted. On the surface, Joker somewhat resembles his name-- light-hearted, cheerful, and friendly. He's easy to talk to, easy to like, and his family is clearly his world. Everything he's done, he's done to survive and to keep his family alive and safe. As their unofficial leader, he took it upon himself to fulfill Baron Kelvin's desires and wishes to spare the others. He's done truly horrible, shameful things in the name of survival, and though he has little shame himself to speak of any longer, the things that happened to the children he's helped kidnap obviously weigh very heavily on him.

The constant guilt and fear and depression he lives with are kept hidden quite well most of the time-- indeed, it seems that only Beast and the Baron, himself, were aware that Joker's bright cheerfulness is a facade. Even so, he does his job very well, both as Baron Kelvin's pseudo-butler, and the leader of the Noah's Ark Circus. As the ringmaster, Joker has to juggle (sometimes literally) various duties: he scouts new recruits, he trains and instructs them, he sees to it that they get their pay and any schooling they need, and he keeps the peace between the various personalities in the motley group.

In this manner, he's sort of like a parent to the younger members of the circus, looking out for and listening to them when they need to talk. He finds these duties to be as important as any of his others, and though he knows those of the first-tier have kidnapped and killed people the same way he has, he still treats them as if they're younger siblings or his children.

He does, in fact, have a temper, which is seen when he snaps at the Baron's manor, trying to attack Ciel, but he usually keeps it reigned tightly in. Anger never did him any good living in the streets, and it was certainly unacceptable around the Baron. --He has a very strong will; because of this, and because of how he's been brought up, he's probably extremely dangerous when it's necessary for him to be. If someone comes between him and his means of survival, there are very few who would escape unscathed.
Conditional: N/A.
Character Plans: Well.. without Baron Kelvin here, it might be nice to see how Joker will handle life now that he can live for himself. I imagine if there's a circus in the Port, he'll work there, and in the off-season, he'll do odd jobs (and possibly prostitute, I can't imagine he has many hang-ups about it given where he's from and what he's done) to survive. Also, I think he'll want to see how Snake's doing.. possibly find some kind of peace. That sort of thing.

Appearance/PB: His icons are representative!

Writing Samples

First Person Sample [ the video turns on to a view of a brightly-coloured tent, one that belongs to a circus or carnival-- but small, clearly one someone lives in. there's a small cot in the corner, a colourful trunk open at its foot and with clothes folded over the edge. a moment later, something rustles, and a slender body slides into a camp chair. it resolves itself to be joker, his long, bright hair loose around his shoulders and most of his makeup gone. he lifts a small cloth, wiping away the last of the paint around his eyes and offering a bright smile into the feed. ]

Never know when this bloody fing is recording. 'Ullo! You're not catching me at me best, but.. [ he winks, bright and flirtatious. ] You should see me when I'm performing, ey? Speaking of--

[ he sets down the cloth, blowing a few strands of hair out of his face and leaning in. ] As far as circuses go--and I know circuses, Mate--this one's not bad, really. Made better by 'avin' me here, of course, but I'm a little like the gilding on a piece what's already pretty.

[ he leans back again in the chair, pushing it back on two legs, balance perfect, naturally. ]

It's funny, you know? I was finkin'.. things sure aren't like they was where I'm from, right? Back there, most of us what was in the Noah's Ark Circus, we were throw-aways. We 'ad this-- tightrope walker-- [ he almost chokes, thinking of doll, but smiles to hide it. ] --an' she only 'ad one eye. Perspective all off, an' she gets up an' learns to walk a rope better'n some I've seen here what 'ave bofe of 'em.

[ the smile turns into a grin. ]

An' then there's me, innit right? [ he holds up his prosthetic arm, the skeletal fingers clicking together as he closes it in a fist. ] Gruesome, eh? I can still do jus' about anyfing wiv it I need to, though. Bastard what made it was good, I can admit it.

Third Person Sample

It had been-- terrifying, waking up in a strange place with the soot and blood of his own death still staining his face and clothes and hands. But he'd had his hands, and there had been no wounds on his body when he'd calmed down enough to check. It was as if he'd been plucked whole out of the flames and given a second chance. --A second chance that he knew he didn't deserve, but all the same, he'd clutched it to him with all the fervor of any child raised in that gutter. He was going to live for his brothers and sisters, if nothing else. Those he hadn't been able to protect, who'd died by-- by whose hand?

He still couldn't remember, and it was driving him a bit mad, to be honest. How had he died, and who had dealt the blow? Who had killed his brothers and sisters from the Circus?

Snake knew, he thought. Sometimes, he saw it in his eyes, the knowledge of Joker's end, but.. he couldn't ask him. It wasn't that he didn't want to know, but Snake had suffered enough, and asking him to recall the deaths of the only family he'd ever had was just.. too much.

So Joker tried to leave the thought alone, throwing himself into his work, into living. He thought.. he wasn't really doing a terribly bad job of it, either, without the threat of Baron Kelvin hanging heavily over him any longer.

"Oi, not like that, luv!" With Joker's extensive experience in managing a circus, it hadn't taken him long to work his way up-- right now, though, he spent most of his time training the new hires, preparing them for the upcoming season. It was tiring and sometimes frustrating work, but as he corrected throws or balance or any of a hundred other things, it felt.. a little like being home, working with his circus.
