So I'm thinking of making this a friends only journal. For no particular reason really, but really the only people who read it are already on my friends list, and I have never been inclined to make friends through livejournal, so I don't really care if no one else is able to read it ( Read more... )

I like not being stalked... Um. Apart from that, there's a small drawback in that it takes a little more effort when new people I know show up on lj; I need to be very careful about explicitly introducing myself and friending them promptly.

Frankly, I'm mildly irritated when I click to random people's journals to put their community comments in context and find that they're friends-only, so I was reluctant to go that route myself, but... didn't realize I cared about my life being vaguely public (I assumed no stranger would care to read my journal) until a stranger knew more about me than I would wish someone to know without my being aware of their existence.

yeah, I'm trying to be pretty careful about who knows personal info about me. It's not that I'm worried, but back when I was dating I remember guys would google me name before dates and try to find as much as they could. It kind of freaked me out, but luckily my full name is pretty common, so when I try it I can't actually find me.

But the more I think about it the less likely I think it is that any random person strolling livejournal is going to see my posts and friend me, and so all posts are really only for my friends I know in real life. In fact no one I have on my friends list that I haven't met in real life. And why write for people I don't know, so I don't. But if I'm not writing for random people then why make it so they can read? I'm coming to the conclusion that my life isn't interesting enough for that, so I'd rather friend-lock everything. I'm rambling, but I just can't see the point of not friend-locking my posts.

i friend lock all posts. this is my way of staying in touch with y'all. it's not for someone else to get their kicks reading about my life.
