I hope all you Aussies on my flist are staying safe.  I don't know where exactly you each live, but I know you're down there, and I want you to please not wash away on me, okay?!

If anyone wants to donate to the flood relief efforts, there's a great website to do so HERE (thanks to dweediecat for the link).

i'm being serious, flist, help!, random thought of the day

I donated again yesterday when I heard that the situation had gotten worse. Seeing so many houses underwater with only their roof showing is so graphic and so awful... I can't begin to imagine what it must feel like for those people up there. I feel powerless to do anything, but every little bit helps so I hope others give at least a little bit too because as with any disaster, there's so much to do when the water finally goes down.

This is like Haiti all over again. That powerless feeling. But you're right, every little bit helps :)

Yeah, it is isn't it. Just awful to watch unfold. But ya know, I guess the only concession is that these people have homes to go back to when the water goes down - waterlogged, yes, but the people of Haiti didn't at all. This may sound awful of me, but I do think that earthquakes are far more devastating than floods. Not saying flooding isn't terrible and sometimes deadly, but it doesn't completely destroy everything like a bad quake tends to do.

haha we had some locusts in Victoria a few weeks ago too... not very scary as there weren't that many.
