I would not be shocked to learn the man sits at home coming up with "what's the worst that could happen" scenarios, and then tries to make them more evil.
Hey, I've connected them [Russel Davies and LMB] on that too -- that they seem to follow a similar "mm, yummy angst juice, let's squeeze harder" approach. I mean I read that thing she wrote a while back about stretching characters by thinking up the worst thing that could happen to them, and watching DW I've thought he had a similar bent at times.
It's an interesting theory of writing. I can see the point of torturing a character sometimes, but I think it's misguided as a steady diet. There are other ways to stretch someone. I mean, to extend a metaphor unnecessarily because it's late, people can grow without having been put on a rack.
Yes; it's reached Pontificating Hour. And so to bed.
Oh my god, why did I follow that link? THANKS A LOT, KANZ.
Okay, well I followed it find out what you meant by Star Trek Eleven. But yeah. Star Trek, Iron Giant which I've never even seen. Quantam Leap which I hadn't known the end of and wish I still didn't. And Futurama. And Torchwood. And Buffy. And Buffy. (And that explanation of the Serenity thing. I've always been puzzled because my reaction to spoiler 1 and spoiler 2 was so different from everyone else's, but I did react to spoiler 3 the same way this writer did.) Well, pfaugh. "I miss kanz," I said. "She's always so clever and cool and interesting," I said. "Why don't I go look at her LJ?" I said. *mutter mutter*
