christ! i thought the whole perk of being a simulated human was that your life didn't have to be as depressing as an actual human's. this gives me very little hope, i must say.
I think Lila is just trying to protect herself, because Jonathan rejected their first kiss 3 times before kissing her back. Vita is really just a welcome distraction for him, though a woman that old pursuing such a close relationship with her young employee is very questionable.
I have suspicions "Dunstin" doesn't really exist. Lila always sees Vita playing chess by herself in the park.
