How to run hidejournal 0.3. (Slanted towards Windows users)

Make sure you're not using tags.

Because HideJournal was written before the introduction of tags to LiveJournal, it will strip tags from entries. You should expect to have to back them up and restore them by hand if you want to use the current release of HideJournal.
Download java

HideJournal requires java. You will need to download and install it ( Read more... )

We were running into the problem of the program just hanging. I went to edit the entry it apparently got 'stuck' on and I received an error message about improper encoding. Changing one setting around fixed it, and now the program runs again normally.

Thought you'd like to know.

How the profile page lets you convert old entries to the Western thingie solved the hanging up problem for me.

It converted most of my first year then just stopped and whenever i tried to run it - it would hang like the other ppl - maybe you could just give quick instructions on how to do this on the download page.

THANKS for writing this!!!!!!!

Still running now but I'm at 2004 and don't expect anymore problems. :)

This doesn't seem to have worked for me. It's still hanging.

I got the first year or so (2003) of entries made friends only then it stopped and said 'cannot continue on this connection'.

I was using a Mac OS X

I've since tried on a PC and it still 'hangs'. I've done a test on another account which only has two entries from last year and it works fine on both machines so that suggests it's something to do with my journal.

Can anyone help?

This information is no longer valid, according to LiveJournal. They expect to be putting the option back "in the near future," but right now, if HideJournal is hung up on a raw HTML post or bad coding, it simply doesn't seem to be able to get past it.

As of February 2007, this fix worked for me!

Well, so far.
