I was a lot more excited about this last week, now I'm just upset.

I saw my dentist. She scolded me for letting my tooth break (it was apparently tooth and not filling). I'm sorry? I DID call your office when I got the root canal done, it was NOT my fault that for whatever reason your employee who is supposed to send off insurance requests didn't bother to do so or call me until NOVEMBER. Even I called insurance ( Read more... )

It is and isn't the same because this happened out of negligence on their part.

I know they're busy, I know I am not their only patient/client, but a crown is supposed to get done RIGHT AWAY after a root canal. I called the day it was finished (September 20th I believe). I was not scheduled to have a crown until January 24th. I think they called ONCE after telling me how much it would cost (nearly $1000) saying they could get me in on X day but I had work and I certainly didn't have the money.

I told them I saw something was wrong and they brushed me off. Then they blame me for it breaking, because obviously this is all my fault somehow.

It sucks! And I only realized today that my regular dentist is not in network for my insurance. I've been lucky that the insurance has paid for my two visits so far in full (one was a cleaning, the other my visit the other day). But now I wonder if I should even go there to get my cavities filled if some place else that is in network can get them done for cheaper.

I didn't have insurance when I got the root canal, and that was done at a specialist. So...I am not sure who I would take up legal recourse with or make demands to.

holy shit! that sounds like a frickin nightmare right there. first a root canal which i imagine to be pure horror both physically as financially (850$, really? the fuuuuck) and now losing a whole tooth because that thing broke.
cant you like... threaten them with a lawsuit? i mean, its obvs. their fault if they didnt get back in touch with you and kept assuring you under false pretense. sounds like a rip-off to me, tbh.
if there's anything i can help you with, let me know. i could give you some money by next month, should you need it to get the teeth removed and a crown/implant installed. (50$ for sure)
i'd hate to see you suffer from this shit.

fuck man. a whole teeth. DDDx you have my full sympathies. i hate the dentist, so just imagining the trouble you went and will go through uuuuurgh

This tooth has been a nightmare. I think it once had a cavity. Then the root died and thus created an infection and I had to deal with the worst pain I have ever felt for...about a week really, and no, I was not given prescribed pain killers but antibiotics ( ... )

They probably are. My dentist might also not know the details of how her receptionist/billing person didn't make much of an effort to call me and schedule me in.

I'm not confrontational either so I don't know how to demand that the removal be done for free. I have to get it removed at a different oral doctor place anyway. *rubs temples*

Well there's no pain. It just feels weird, having only half of a tooth.

I'm glad you got your card!

...a bridge costs $3000? An implant costs $4000...and possibly lasts for life...

I seriously wish I had a time machine. Would have told my mother to never get me braces and just let me have fucked up teeth and an overbite if it would saved me all this teeth trouble.

It all costs money and it sucks.

Through my calling around, it's actually cheaper for me to get an implant. I haven't called any of the 78 different in network dentists who live within 5 miles of me to get how much a bridge would be, but it looks like they'd cost the same. Only difference is one is replaced and the other isn't. One affects three teeth, the other doesn't.

I doubt they will. I am not feeling optimistic. I kind of stop being an optimist a while ago.

If they were negligent, I would certainly go to someone else to have them check on your tooth, I had a dentist tell me my kids had three cavities each, and needed white ceramic fillings (insurance only pays 1/2) in BABY TEETH. Went to another dentist and he said not only no cavitites, but what would be the point drilling and filling when they were going to fall out in months????

I don't know where I would go. My whole family sees this dentist.

It's starting to look like they were negligent. I'm considering finding a pro-bono lawyer to talk to about this to see if I have a case or even a possibility of demanding some services be rendered free/paid for by them.

If you have insurance, they should have a list of other dentists in your area.

There are 78 different in network dentists within 5 miles of my zip code. That's a lot to shift through.
