Damned Space Marine Painter.

I've been playing around with paint themes for my Space Marine army, now that my people have me playing around with Warhammer 40K with them, and I'm hoping for some feedback since I'm new to this stuff.

L5R Crab/Green Lantern themed Space Marine pics within, LJ cut to spare Friends Page space and in case anyone doesn't want to see the geekery. )

I'd say the Crab clan one is probably the most striking color scheme. Looks really slick. Though the third color scheme looks really nice too and has a much more unified feel to it. Though I feel obligated to point out that if you used the third one, I'd expect every single marine in your army to have a lantern corp logo on their shoulder. :P

I guess I'm the odd one here. I really like the look of the 2nd one. But I will agree with Tim, if you go with 2 or 3, you do need your chapter symbol to be the lantern symbol.

Although I still like the look of the crab and I think it fits your play style...and even though it's close to traditional space marine blue, we already have Tao green armor and Orky green skin.

And I do say story-wise I think it would be cool for your chapter to be a breakoff faction of the Crimson Fists.

Speaking artistically, in the top design, the green seems jarringly out of place. I understand it purpose, but it just looks like a poor palette choice.

As mentioned before, the green lantern ones look more unified. Of the two, the bottom design looks the most commanding. The middle one is a bit more visually interesting, especially if you chose to use metallics instead of a flat white/light gray.

If you were going to use the Lantern logo, use a variation on it (tilt it sideways, remove one part, move the lines around, that sort of thing). So you can pay homage to it, but also make it your own.
