show and tell

I wanted to share this poster concept I made last week for a project. We got to pick our own subjects, so I conceived this as a marriage equality related deal. Pretty pleased with how the simple shapes and limited colors worked.

It's a good thing I'm not straight, or I'd be really offended at these crackpots' ideas about what my marriage is supposed to look like.

Fuck this crap. The only thing that threatens my marriage is dickfaces legislating bullshit that makes marriage about hate and exclusion rather than love. I don't give a shit what anybody else does in their bedroom, and I think that anybody who want to should have the opportunity to run themselves ragged for six months planning a big party about their relationship.

I'm not even going to touch the monogamy thing.

MTE. Whenever I hear the cry of "it's redefining marriage! and that's bad!" I wonder if these people realize marriage has changed a LOT since ye olden times and uh...that's a good thing.

The Prop 8 trial was really fascinating (there were live transcripts that went up at prop8trialtracker.com - they're a bit rough but enough to give the jist of what went on), because the witnesses that the defendants brought pretty much all sang the same song:

8: FAGS ARE BAD ECONOMICALLY/SOCIALLY/THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
Us: So, when you say fags are bad... would you like to present some research?
8: Not as such, no.
Us: So, shall we take a look at this research that says you are completely wrong?
8: Well,
Us: So, tell us about your studies.
8: Um... I... they seem to show that fags actually have no visible impact on straight people and this is good for them and their children, so it's actually hella beneficial to everyone, except the people it doesn't effect.

Seriously, this is how all of the expert witnesses went, except the ones who actually hadn't done any research at all.

I remember when we did debates in one of my high school English classes that the teacher wouldn't let anyone use gay marriage because "there is no good argument against it."

I still think about that when I hear things like the non-arguments in the prop 8 trials. There just isn't a good argument against it :P

LOVE this art. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

In fact, when scrolling through my flist I first thought this was published artwork referenced on ontd_p before seeing your name.

It's the simplicity of shapes and the limited colors that make it so powerful, I think. FAB JOB, BB.
