YESSS THE SECOND SEASON IS SO GREAT!

I actually got into it because I dig the scariness, but I think overall the first season is probably worse. Nightmares are no fun D:

Gross - YES. Ruby's awesomeness - yes. She's not quite there yet, but I do find her interesting, much more so than earlier in the season. And I was so, so happy when she told Dean he's become a demon too. Because he's been such a selfish ass about dying so far, and it just felt good to finally see someone break his bubble of noble sacrifice. EAT THAT, DEAN.

I agree with you about Sam too - so far, the entire progression of his character has felt reasonable. People who gets burned out by their work, especially such emotionally draining work as this, get apathetic - nothing supernatural about it.

Anyway. I don't usually notice portrayal of women on this show, but this episode, man. The coven really pissed me off. Either weak stupid flighty sheep or damsels in distress or evil manipulative soul-suckers. Why don't we ever get a coven of man-witches in distress? I would like to see that.

I agree SO HARD.

Oh, oh, don't forget jealous and vindictive! It was sort of lame that they had to go with the traditional all female and subordinate coven :P It didn't actually bother me when I was watching it but that's a good point. That one chick with the freckles did save the day at the end though, and subsequently died for it...so I guess that is better than nothing?

ok, that was somewhat similar to what I thought. The more "fanwanky" part of my theory was that Ruby's demon mistress (or whoever she was) would know more than Ruby about fixing the gun...but it not being the original Colt makes sense. But the crossroads demon still knew it wasn't the original Colt so...?

idk, it could just be the show being lazy :/
