VERY IMPORTANT SPIDER BUSINESS

so I'm remembering the regional dialect meme from a while back and this one question is bugging me:

What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs? Here's the thing: I remember a couple of people saying "a daddy long-legs is not a spider." I think it was mentioned that they only have six legs? This ( Read more... )

IN THE 3 SECONDS IN B/W WHEN I SEE ONE AND WHEN I THROW A SHOE OR OTHER HANDY OBJECT AT IT TO SMASH IT INTO BITS, I DO CONSIDER IT A SPIDER BC I SEE THEM HANGING OUT IN WEBS.

Webs seem like a good argument for their spider-hood.

I still remember this: the teacher at my kindergarten would not tolerate anyone killing daddy long legs (we had a lot in the building) because she liked them.

IDK if I've ever seen a harvestman. What a creepy fucking name. I would have staked my reputation on the fact that a daddy longlegs is NOT a spider. Cellar spider is a creepy name, too.

We used to call crane flies mosquito hawks, which I always thought made them sound really impressive and vicious.

ALSO, I MISS YOU

SO TRUE about the 'harvestman' name. and you know, after I looked at the pictures and thought about it, I have seen harvestmen...but usually outside. They creep me out more than cellar spiders because their bodies are round and not segmented and eeegh.

I miss you too!! I keep wanting to text you to hang out and then I remember I can't :P hope you're having fun with the davis crowd though!

i am terrified of spiders and that harvestmen name made it somehow worse, but this totally came to mind when you said seven legs http://www.27bslash6.com/overdue.html

I have never heard that daddy long-legs aren't spiders! I think I've seen both that cellar spider and the harvestman (wtf, creepy name for a bug, srsly) before, though. Perhaps I was interchangeably thinking of them as daddy long-legs, who knows.
