Yes there was an earthquake, or so I've heard. I didn't even feel it and neither did the coworkers I asked.

The construction crew get points for that, but I feel somehow cheated.

I'm glad no one seems to have been injured by the quake, but I had to laugh at the reactions up and down the eastern seaboard about this. There was a 5.3 quake on the NM-Colorado border late last night and everyone just said 'ho-hum'.

I guess they'll all forget about it anyway when the hurricane hits over the weekend.

You're probably right.

Though as some people have pointed out, the buildings out here are not built to withstand earthquakes because we get them so rarely.

I mean, it's kind of like Southern California freaking out over, I dunno, five inches of snow? We view it as nothing to be concerned about, they view it as crazy - and I guess that sort of earthquake is the same for us. And like you said, our buildings aren't built for it and their road crews have no clue what to do with snow either. So we all have our own weather foibles!
